Lorna, after looking both ways, chanced a smile at his antics before planting a kiss on his shoulder. A shoulder kiss was nothing, and he was being pleasant today, so why not? If it had been almost anywhere else she would have probably left and made a show of it, but hey. It was then that another branch fell down on them, this time hitting Lorna on the head.
"Damn," she said. "Is it Fall already? I thought that wasn't for another month or so..." She wondered if her calendar was really that off.
Conrad's eyes widened as he actually saw her possibly kiss Rick on the shoulder? What the heck. He gestured at Skylar wildly and pointed down at them before mouthing, "The hell?" at her. He then resumed picking up a stick and dropping it on Rick's head.

Rick smacked the side of his face in fake shock, loudly whispering "Whaaaaaaaaat?" Had the Fuhrer actually just went along with one of his teases? Oh no, the world really WAS ending. There was going to be a second apocalypse, somehow! "Quick, the pain has spread - now ya gotta kiss me on da mouth!" He added in a rush, before another branch fell down and whacked Lorna on the head.
He blinked in surprise, losing his cheeky demeanor as he fumbled to offer comfort. He awkwardly rubbed her upper arm, not wanting to ruffle her hair as though she was a child. Was Fall normally this violent around here? He wasn't used to--
And then a stick pegged him in the head. Okay, no way. That's not how Fall works.
Whipping his head up so quickly his hat almost fell off, Rick shot a fierce glare upwards that managed to make contact with a terrified Conrad before he scootched back after being caught in the act.
"We gotta couple'a droppers." He whispered to Lorna, smirking viciously. "N THEY SEEM TA THINK IT'S FUNNY TA BE DROPPIN' MORE DAN 'EAVES!" He stood up, charging inside and heading up the stairs to try to find a way to catch them on the roof. How they had even got up there, though, Rick didn't know, so instead he marched around the house blindly.

Skylar: She rolled her eyes at the NERDINESS of the two older people and got ready to peg them both on the head when Rick made clear that he knew of their exploits and set out to catch them in the act. She scrabbled away, rolling up the roof while gesturing violently, albeit silently, to Conrad.
With his help she dropped quietly through the open skylight. As he followed her she made sure that he shut it behind him. She dashed to her room while Rick was patrolling a different part of the house, blindly grabbed two books, and ran back out to Conrad. She wasn't really sure where to go from there.

--But Conrad knew. He picked her up and swung her over the banister, took her hand and dropped her lightly on the couch below. He looked around, heard Rick's loud footsteps coming, slid down the railing, turned and jumped surprisingly quietly onto the couch. Skylar immediately put her legs over his and he was focusing so hard on the book she'd tossed at him that he didn't notice. So there they sat, looking a bit like they'd been there all along if it weren't for the supplies still laying out, untouched other than the food that got put away.
Be cool, be cool.
Lorna, in the meantime was still swinging on the porch with the last bit of her cigarette. She would let the man of the house deal with this one.

Coming up behind the couch, Rick stood for a second with his hands balled into fists, an evil plan forming itself in his head. Oh sure, they could pretend to have been innocent all along, but Rick knew better.
Grabbing the back of Conrad's head, Rick shoved him over Skylar, before grabbing the bottom of the couch and using all his strength to flip it with both of them still on it. He heard them tumble underneath it, effectively trapped unless they tried to wiggle out the open space... that faced his waiting boots. He crossed his arms triumphantly, waiting to see if they'd decided to just remain crammed in there together or risk facing what possible wrath he had left over for them. (Which wasn't much, because he thought this was hilarious and was doing his best not to kill himself laughing right now at the mental image of the rabbit stuck with the kitty cat on top of him.)

Skylar: She had about half a second to try and grin up at Rick in not an incredibly mischievous or guilt admitting way when suddenly Conrad was toppling into her. She struggled to sit up and wiggle away when the couch itself lurched. She felt the world spin and barely had time to yell and catch her breath before she was pinned to the ground, her head pounding from making contact with the floor.
She felt herself pressed against one side of the couch, everything around her dark and quickly growing warm. She was having trouble getting a bearing on her surroundings, her head was swimming. She felt something pressing on top of her and her breathing quickened. It was warm, and making noises - a body, a person, male!! They were pinning her, keeping her from moving, their breath was in her ear. Her heart raced, her breathing came in quick gasps. Her hand scrabbled at her hip, but her knife wasn't there. She was in a dress.
Somewhere in the back of her mind part of her was trying to be reasonable. It was Conrad, they were stuck under the couch. If she would just help him it wouldn't be a problem! But her instincts weren't listening. Her limbs and chest were too busy going numb, ice flooding out from her heart. She was taking short gasps now, but it felt like she wasn't taking in any air. Just calm down, calm down. She kept up her mantra. It helped a little, but she still felt paralyzed.

((Dang, I'm a little late. I was going to delete my previous post because: 1) I forgot about Skylar's phobia, and even if Rick has no way of possibly knowing about it yet, it personally bothers me to inflict this on Skylar. Especially because I can relate to her feelings of terror and it makes me uncomfortable, even if she's just fictional. 2) Even if Rick is a colossal idiot who doesn't think things through, I realized it'd probably be better if he just bullied them in a different way rather than FLIPPING THE COUCH. But since I'm late, this is just my disclaimer that I apologize on Rick's behalf and I don't think I'm going to have him pull anything as outrageous in the future, even if it seems OOC given his past nature.)) Hearing the sounds of shuffling and panicked breathing coming from beneath the couch, Rick realized his mistake about five minutes too late, since he never should've done this in the first place. Gripping the edge of the couch, he hoisted it off of them, revealing an absolutely petrified Skylar that had his heart lurching in terror. Oh shit, what did he do?Feeling like he'd only make things worse, he moved the couch out of the way and hovered awkwardly, not sure how to help them up without causing more problems. He took a step towards them, then stepped back, then took another step forward and stopped before rubbing his neck. He started to hold out his hand, but hesitated halfway, before pulling it back and shoving it in his pocket. He stared at the floor, the wall, the ceiling. Basically, just anywhere that wasn't at the dishevelled duo, especially Skylar who looked like she'd just re-experienced hell. Which for all he knew she probably had, and it was his fault. "I didn't know." He said out loud, then bit his tongue and dragged a hand down his face. "Wow, I'm an asshole. I'm jus'... Shit. I'm sorry." It was the first time he had apologized to... any of these people, he realized with remorse. He looked at Conrad, told him to help Skylar control her breathing, before he quickly left the room. He ran to the kitchen and turned on the water, running it until it was cold and filling a glass with it. He brought it back, but again, kept his distance. He held it out at arm's length to Conrad. "Dat might help. I dunno, ah..." He trailed off, moving away until his back hit the wall and he stood against it with his hat hiding his face. ((Uhm. Character development, at least? Yaaaay....))

((I just wanna point out that that could have gone SO MUCH WORSE. Thank God for sundresses? She probably would have freaking stabbed him or something??)) As Conrad scrambled up and held the glass to Skylar, absolutely terrified at what the heck was just happening, both on having a couch on top of him and on feeling Skylar tense up and, he wasn't sure, but had she tried to reach for her knife?? He silently thanked whatever deity was listening that she hadn't had it on her or else.... He didn't really know. Still, some part of him felt like this wasn't really anybody's fault, regardless of how freaked out he was about it. He tried to give Rick a comforting look when Lorna walked in-- or, more accurately, half-stomped in, and took over. "What the hell is going o--" she started before she saw Skylar. It looked to her like the couch had moved significantly from its spot, and with the books on the floor and Skylar just sitting up on the floor and with Conrad holding out a glass of water, she could only assume Rick (who, it was worth noting, was standing guiltily in the corner) had done something stupid and also something very bad had happened to Skylar in the past. She could see that Rick obviously was already angry with himself, though, and Conrad looked okay, just very confused and unsettled, so she held out a hand to help Skylar on her feet before taking the water from Conrad. "Skylar, are you okay?" Lorna asked, her usual military edge nonexistent as she spoke. She knew she was NOT okay, but... "Why don't we get you to your room, sweet pea?" She was very sure not to touch her, but edged toward the staircase ever so slightly as she hovered the glass of water near Skylar's hands.

Skylar: She sat up shakily, taking deep breaths. Everyone was fluttering about here - aw, damn. She was coming too herself, still feeling shaky. This had only happened once before, when she had been intelligent enough to fall down and twist her ankle, trapped under some debris until she could dig her way out. It hadn't been as intense that time, however. There hadn't been another person involved.
She shook herself out of that thought and found herself trembling slightly. What was wrong with her? She sipped the water and took a deep breath again.
"I'm sorry." her voice caught a little. "Ah, fuck. Sorry! Just startled I guess, caught by surprise. Fuck. Um, I'm fine."
The next thing she knew, Lorna was lifting her up and guiding her away. She still felt out of it, her brain buzzing slightly, when suddenly she heard the words sweet pea come out of Lorna's mouth. Her eyebrow cocked against her will and gave her a strange look.

"Hey," she said softly. "Hey, you're with us now. Don't apologize." Lorna ignored her strange look as she led her up the stairs and to her room.
"Why don't you get some shut-eye?" she said. "It's been a long day." When Skylar got into bed, Lorna pulled the covers over her and took her glass, setting it on the nightstand between her bed and a bookshelf. She carefully pushed some hair out of her face before she stood straight and left the room, closing the door behind her.
Conrad looked at Lorna strangely, half at her transformation and half as if to say 'is she alright?' Lorna shrugged- a good enough answer to both silent questions, and sighed before leaving to look for Rick. Once she was gone, Conrad watched to make sure she wasn't looking and peeked in after opening the door a crack. "Skylar? You okay?"

Pretty much wrapped up in his own feelings of guilt, Rick didn't look up for anything besides Lorna referring to Skylar as 'sweet pea'. That was new, but he quickly returned to looking like a dog that knows it has done something bad, especially when Lorna lead Skylar past him and up the stairs to presumably put her to bed. He vaguely mumbled an "Are you okay?" at Conrad, but for once, Rick was speaking too quietly to be heard as Conrad also headed past him and up the stairs.
Hunching his shoulders, he took the opportunity to flee with gusto, making his way silently out of the living room before breaking into a sprint and running for the back door. He fumbled with the lock repeatedly, hands too shaky to work properly until he gave up and thumped his head against the door instead, the brim of his hat forced down and pressing against his nose. He sighed, irritated with himself completely and turned around so his back was to the door. He pressed against it, sliding down until his butt met the floor and he sat with his legs akimbo. He was still covered in dirt, and had probably just left a bunch of it all over the house, he realized with a grimace. Oh well. He made another mess; Somehow, he wasn't surprised.

Skylar: She lay in bed as Lorna instructed, but she just kept feeling angry at herself. It was so stupid how she was acting. She didn't even understand why - well, she did understand why she had reacted that way. But that had happened so long ago! Shouldn't she be... over it by now? And she hadn't really expected this. She'd only had an episode like that once before, when she'd been a moron and fallen through a crumbling floor, managing to twist her ankle in the process. But that hadn't been as intense, possibly because there hadn't been another person there. On top of her. Not important!
When Conrad came in, she was grateful for the distraction.
"Hey! Yeah, I'm okay. Sorry for being so stupid, though." she said, ramming the heel of her hand into her forehead. "I didn't mean to make a fuss!"

"No, don't apologize." Conrad crept into the room, closing the door silently behind him. "I mean... getting a couch flipped over on top of you isn't something easy to prepare for..."
He scratched his neck, looking down at the floor. "I'm glad you're okay though. Do you uh... need anything?" Conrad actually felt really bad. She was new here and they already managed to uproot one of her seemingly-deep-seated phobias from... probably something bad that had happened to her, judging by-- he jUST REMEMBERED HOW SHE REACHED FOR A KNIFE. WOW. Granted, Rick wasn't exactly the most reasonable person, but they had been dropping twigs on them from the roof... So...
Lorna made her way down the hallway leading to the kitchen and looked around, not seeing the bulky mass that was Rick. She was about to wind her way back to the staircase to check his room, thinking he'd somehow gotten past them without being heard, when she saw he was sitting on the floor in front of the back door, obstructed to her view by the dining room table. She did her very best not to sigh as she moved her way around it and sat down next to him. It was a while before she said anything.
"It's okay, you know," she said finally. "Even though it was possible for them to break something or... whatever... they're both okay." She had been about to lecure him on flipping couches when she remembered how guiltily he'd hidden under his cap previously and figured he'd lectured himself enough.
"Anyway, would you like to tell me why you're covered in grime?" Lorna wasn't going to ask, but she figured a change of subject would be good.

Hearing someone - who he quickly spotted and realized was Lorna - creeping around on the same floor as he was on, Rick tensed. He debated on what he should do. Should he try to get the back door open again? His hands weren't shaking as much now... But he was pretty sure he'd be spotted as soon as he moved, which they hadn't successfully saw him yet, and-- Dammit. Lorna had managed to catch a peek of him from a better angle and now she was heading towards him. He sunk his head, chin meeting his chest as he did.
'Don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't...' He repeated internally, unsure if he was telling himself not to do something, or if the message was intended for Lorna. Or even Skylar, and Conrad. All of them. 'Don't come near me, just go away and leave me alone.' Yeah, that sounded more like him. He took a breath in, as if to speak, but after holding it for a couple seconds, let it go again without a word. His head stayed down. Dammit, again.
"It's okay, you know." Her words cut through him like a knife, even with the reminder things could've definitely been worse. He tried to comfort himself with that, but it didn't work, unsurprisingly. Still, the effort of her trying to convince him was... nice. He shoved his hands over his face, rubbing it in an agitated manner.
"I was digging." He mumbled through his hands, voice shaky and quiet like a scared child. He wanted to provide more explanation, try to reassure he wasn't just uselessly doing something stupid and ruining anything else, but somehow he couldn't figure out how to make his mouth work properly at the moment. Before he knew it, he was shrinking up into a compressed ball and sliding sideways, his head making the barest contact with her shoulder before he froze, hovering there with his hands still over his face.

Lorna looked at him, surprised, but not upset as he just barely leaned his head on her shoulder. Unable to find any words related to that topic, she awkwardly patted his head through his cap a couple times. She would have patted his hand if it had been free, but no, both were hiding his face. She decided to tend to the other item of business.
"Digging what?" she asked finally. "And why?" Like seriously, what the hell.
