Paratus: Verb. 1. supply/furnish 2. obtain 3. raise _________________________ "Is the water in the back?" "Yeah, it was the first thing in there. And we have the map and the compass and the weapons and everything else you've asked me five times if we have. Now can we go already?" Conrad had about had it with Lorna's over-preparedness. She'd been going over this (small) list for about half-an-hour, still not convinced they were ready. "Okay, but what about the gas can?" "Yes!" Lorna sighed. Was it really a crime to be prepared? "Alright, let's go." Conrad punched the air and let out a 'whoop!' before he hollered up the stairs. "Jane! Let's go!" Not even waiting for a response, he dashed outside. It had taken him about an hour to put one of the benches back in and get the mattress out of the back of it and make sure it was 'ship-shape,' but he'd finally convinced Lorna that they could all go and it might even be fun. Skylar was already in the car- she'd actually gotten on the bench as soon as Conrad put it in. "We're finally leaving," he informed her as he sidled in next to her. "It's already going to take a couple hours to get there, so I don't understand why we're taking so long. It's a fairly untouched Wal-Mart! Why are we delaying at all?" Inside, Lorna buttoned up her vest and triple-checked her guns before placing them back in their holsters. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Jane exit through the door. After she felt like she was ready, she turned to Rick. "Alright, let's get out of here. Did you lock the back door?"

Jane stared in the mirror, holding her bandana in one hand. If she put it over her face she'd be pretty solid on safety. It was so uncomfortable though... She switched it to her other hand, frowning down at the piece of cloth. She would probably have time to put it on if anything went down, right? The sudden sound of Conrad's voice jolted her out of her concentration. Making a swift decision, she tied it atop her head. She'd have enough time. Most likely.
She lightly sprung down the stairs, only slowing when she saw Lorna. The medic had declared her ankle in good condition as long as she went easy on it. Jane didn't want to poke the bear, so she always was careful when she saw the woman. She sidled past her and out the door, practically running to the van when she was safely out of sight. It felt so good to move fast without constant pain in her foot! By the time she made it to the van she was breathing heavy. Scooting onto the opposing bench, she gave the other two teens a small smile. She would never admit it, but she was pretty excited about her first scavenging trip with them.

Skylar: She sat, bouncing in her seat. According to Lorna's scouting report, this place was really promising! Even from the scouting mission she'd brought back a couple bags of food! And it was a Wal-Mart. She wasn't particularly familiar with that chain of stores, since it was mostly Krogers where she lived. But she'd been before, and if memory served they had every freaking thing. Her bouncing increased when she thought of precisely what she hoped they had.
Finally the car started loading up. She grinned widely at Conrad as he squeezed in next to her, followed by Jane. As they waited of the others to join them she leaned herself over the driver's seat and set up her iPod on the makeshift speakers she'd made a while back. She hit the play button and the sound reverberated around the car surprisingly well (although she knew from experience the noise of driving would drown it out considerably. She's spent quite some time finding the perfect secure acoustical spot in this car. Now if the others would just get the frick frack in here.

"Uh-huh." Rick nodded with a roll of his eyes, arms crossed over his chest. "Ya wanna check da list off fer de hundredth time wid me, too? Or ya willin' ta take da rabbit at his word?"
Putting a hand at the small of her back, he ushered her forward, waiting til she walked out first before turning and making sure each and every single lock was done up on the front door. As expected, when he turned around to head to the van, Lorna was in the way, having stopped to watch and make sure he did up every single lock just right. He fell to one leg, gesturing dramatically to the door with his head back, as if presenting 'BEHOLD! THE MAJESTY OF OUR STURDY LOCKED DOOR!!'
Laughing at himself as he straightened back up and headed for the van, he invited himself into the front seat before leaning across and opening the passenger door for Lorna. He nodded his head with a smile about the music, catching Skylar's eyes in the rearview.
"All buckled up, kiddies?" He asked as he pulled his own seatbelt over his chest, adjusting his hat so it wasn't as low on his head as usual.

It's like this guy was ASKING for her to roll her eyes at him. And she did. She had to admit that he was getting easier to deal with, and she even enjoyed his company for the most part now, even if he had his vulgar edge. She rarely saw it nowadays, and that was no skin off her nose.
When she got to the car, she hopped in, pleasantly surprised at him opening the door for her before securing her seatbelt tightly.
"He means it, guys. Buckle up."
Conrad nodded in agreement. "A car crash would be a really dumb way to die nowadays," he said brightly, against the content of his statement, as he buckled in his seatbelt and leaned to make sure Skylar did hers too. He glanced over at Jane who was already buckled in and shot a thumbs up at the green eyes in the rearview mirror. "Ready!"
Lorna nodded, glad that SOMEONE else here cared about road safety.

Jane closed her eyes as the music hummed through the car. A second later they popped open at the mention of seat belts. She yanked hers down, buckling it with a satisfying click. She suddenly felt a wave of nostalgia and realized how long it'd been since she'd rode in a car!

Skylar: She rolled her eyes at Conrad, buckling her seatbelt with exaggerated motions. Like she was a little kid, needing to be babysat. Geez!
She couldn't help but grin and bounce with joy as they finally began moving, though.
"Alright!!! Time to get a MOVE on!" She had no idea how long it would take to get there, but hopefully not long at all. She wasn't sure she could handle a long boring drive to get to the MOTHERLOAD.

With a loud cheer and a punch in the air that almost had him punching the roof of the van and earning a warning glare from Lorna, Rick pulled the van out of the driveway and onto the road.
"So, we've got several hours ahead'a us n' not a whole lot ta do til then." He said, loud enough to be heard over the music and eyes checking the rearview to see if anyone was paying attention. "What's da first thing everyone's planning ta snatch up as soon as dey get deir greedy lil' hands on it?" He asked conversationally. Not that he didn't like Skylar's music - actually, it was kind of catchy! Even if most of it was newer stuff and not his usual taste.
He drummed his fingers along the edge of the steering wheel as he considered his own answer, though he quickly realized he knew exactly what he'd be heading for first.
'Second, den...' He asked himself internally, putting forth further consideration as he drove onwards.

Lorna scowled, but played the game. "Provisions. Food. Weapons." Someone had to. She put her feet up on her seat to give herself a sort of table for her writing and went to work silently. Conrad looked at her like 'you think we're not worried about that, oh my god??' before answering. "I actually have no idea! I just hope this place has some cool stuff. Like maybe a soccer ball or basketball or basketball hoop! That would be cool." He nodded, satisfied with his answer.

Jane hmm-ed before coming up with something. "Clothes that fit." She was pretty sick of the children's pants that didn't even cover her ankles, not to mention the shorts from Skylar. She was cold all the time, no matter the temperature, and the lack of coverage on her legs was a constant problem. Thinking about it made her feel a chill and she pulled up her legs to wrap her arms around them. Setting her chin on her knees, she told Skylar, "Your turn!"

Skylar: She couldn't help wiggling a bit as she answered.
"Well, since Mein Fuhrer has taken the boooooring option already... Cloooothes," she said, smiling and biting her lip. She was almost a little ashamed to still want nice clothes so much in the apocalypse, but it sure as sweet brown sugar wasn't gonna stop her from grabbing as many as she could hold. She shot a glance at Conrad and grinned, already imagining how much he could probably hold.
She looked outside, excited to even watch the scenery go by. The road bumped and jiggled, and sometimes they had to slow to a near stop, or back up and go a different route because of an unknown blockage, but she didn't care, as long as they kept creeping ever nearer to their goal.

Conrad wouldn't admit it, but he was mentally taking notes on what Skylar was hoping to find. He figured he could help her out and if he knew what to keep an eye out for while he was roaming, it would be easy.
Lorna, in the meantime, was looking at an oversized map of the surrounding area, marking it with a red pen on the route they were taking. All these accidents and parked cars were getting difficult to maneuver around. She had to find a different route if they were to over come this way again. She said so to Rick, and he agreed heartily and they talked while the younger members of their group were left to their own devices in the back of the van.
Eventually, Conrad (though figuring Skylar would probably say the idea was lame,) said, "We could play a game or something to pass the time." He knew full well he'd have to get out sometimes to help with moving cars and such, but in the meantime the trip was boring (at least to him).

Jane nodded thoughtfully at the idea, nudging her chin between her knees. "We- my parents and I- we used to play a game on tours. You'd go through the alphabet and try to find a word on signs or bumper stickers that started with each letter. Then whoever got the most would-"" She squeaked as they hit a bump and she felt herself come up off the seat. She death gripped the bench as her butt made contact with the bench again and she managed to finish saying, "WIN."

Skylar bounced in her seat excitedly.
"Ooooooh, I've played that game before! I'm boss at it! Let's do it, I'll beat all of you!" She immediately began staring intently outside the windows. It wasn't long before... "ALL PRODUCTS MUST GO! A!!!" she called, pointing fiercely at the sign.

Uhh? Uhhhh??? Conrad was having a hard time finding any B's! Or C's! Or D's! Were letters real? Were they actually a thing? Do they exist or were they a social construct? His head was spinning but he concentrated hard on finding something- anything. Lorna had seen a couple B things, but wasn't interested in playing.
