Ace: He turned away, looking out beyond the fence. He stood there for a long time in contemplation. He almost couldn't believe what he was hearing. The military wanting to kill off their only Code Spes, making such hasty judgements, and ignoring the closest thing to a specialist they had. Almost... and yet. He'd seen that file, although he wasn't supposed to. He knew more than he liked about what his military was capable of. He knew that, under the right circumstances, they would do anything to reverse this disease - even if that course of action ended up hurting them more. They were desperate people, and desperate people made stupid mistakes.
Eventually he turned back around and asked simply,
"What are you wanting from this?" He knew she wouldn't be telling him this without a reason. It was incredibly sensitive information, and he had a suspicion he knew what she was going to say.

Lorna watched Alicia play some more, laughing and smiling at basically nothing.
"Look at her," she said, pointing. "She could be safe here. Happy, even. And one day, we could find a cure. She could know a world that isn't... this. With your help. I've never asked anyone to stay before, but I need you here." She looked at him hard before turning back to Alicia again. "It's your choice."
Lorna walked past Alicia and into the house. Decisions like this took time- they weren't something to be rushed into.

Ace: After she'd left he knelt down next to Alicia, watching her play with two sticks for a moment. "Alicia?" he asked. She looked up. "Yeah, Ace?' she said in her small voice. "Do you like it here?" he figured he already knew her answer. It took almost no time for Alicia to fall in love with any given place, especially one as comfortable as this. As he thought, she nodded. "I wike the panc-pankays they give us, anna moosic girl is nice. Anna bed is cooomfy!" she said, hugging herself as though imagining the bed. Ace didn't say anything, he just watched her play for a while longer. Some time later, as the sun was just beginning to lower in the sky, Ace appeared back near the house, carrying Alicia. He came in the back door, through the kitchen. Lorna was there at the dining table, writing in a small book. "We'll stay," he said. Before she could respond he added, "On a trial basis." He hoped that would be good enough for her. It was the best he had to offer. ===->
