Servo: Latin. Verb. 1. to protect or store 2. keep/guard 3. preserve or save _________________________ Lorna edged her way into the kitchen to find Ace sitting at the bar already, drinking out of a water bottle. She could only assume he'd been up for thirty minutes or so and had already worked out. She relayed the objectives to him, informed him where she and Rick had planned to go, and reiterated again that she left him in charge of the house. With this, he took her timeline and helped them carry what little they needed to the car. It was a simple pick-up mission, and she hoped it wouldn't take long, but it never hurt to be prepared. But it didn't much matter, in all honesty, the value of the files was easily worth a few days if it did indeed take that long (she didn't think it would). Thanking him, Lorna turned to Rick and nodded once. Ace went back into the house and Lorna headed to the car, glancing over at Rick as the edges of the sun peeked over the horizon. So it was around 7:30, then. North Dakota and its late rising sunrises. She supposed Stedman would be up soon, but everyone had already been debriefed so she didn't much care. "You ready?" She began circling the car to get to the driver's seat.

Marching down the stairs as quietly as possible, Rick attempted to stifle a loud yawn with the back of his hands. What was a proper sleeping schedule again? He couldn't remember. Leaning against the wall until beckoned, he adjusted his hat so it was out of his eyes and helped Playing Card and Lor pack up what little they were taking. By now he knew better than to ever debate with the Fuhrer about her obsessive preparedness - it had only served them well so far.
Waiting by the car, he was distracted by the rise of the sun (finally). The new light had him adjusting his hat again, but still. Sunrises were always a good sign; They'd lasted another day. Facing Lorna with a smile and a stretch of his neck that gave off a little crack, he nodded.
"Ready when you are, gorgeous."

Lorna tapped the hood of what Skylar called "the little silver thing." In her opinion, it was pretty nice, even though it was outdated. She rolled her eyes at Rick, very sure he didn't mean it (as usual) and lingered by the driver's side door. "You going to fight me on this, or are you going to let me drive?" She didn't much care either way-- while she liked driving, she did have a blind spot.

"Tickle fight." He answered, in a completely serious tone with a completely serious face. Folding one arm over the other, he rested his chin on top of them on the roof of the car, body pressed against the passenger side door.
Waiting until Lorna rolled her eyes with an exasperated groan, he gave a brief bark of laughter before opening his door and climbing inside. The day just didn't really feel started until he had properly gotten a reaction out of Frown Brow. Yanking on his seatbelt, he tapped his fingers on the tops of his legs to a beat he matched with quiet humming. NOW he was ready to go!

Lorna got in the driver's seat and stuck the key in the ignition, now with a healthy dosage of indignance toward her passenger. She buckled her seatbelt and turned the key, satisfied with the car sounding pretty okay still! This car would last much longer than the van, she was sure, but the issue was the gas. They had a couple small cans and they weren't going too far away, though, so it should be okay!
There was an auxillary cable sticking out of the stereo, but without Skylar that wasn't going to do much good. Instead, she reached around the back of Rick's seat to the pocket in the back of it to pull out her CD's. She shoved them at Rick, hoping he wouldn't notice that it was her husband's case and she only had a few of the CD's she really liked in it. It was mostly old stuff, because that was what Brad had liked. If she knew anything though, she knew that Rick liked what Brad liked for the most part. They at least shared a liking for Elvis, just like grandparents.
"You can pick the music," she said casually. At this point she turned to look out the back as she pulled out of the driveway with a wave to Conrad who had managed to run out there and open the gate for them in the time they'd been distracted. That kid was so fast, she swore she was going to start using him for bait. Those legs were a godsend.
She pulled out into the road and didn't need to look at a map before heading off in the right direction.

Taking the CDs and flipping through them with interest, he popped in a particular CD - as predicted - and the soothing crooning of Elvis Presley gently filled the vehicle as Rick adjusted himself to be more comfortable in the seat and Lorna pulled out and away onto the road ahead of them.
With his arms behind his head and his legs stretched out as much as they could be, Rick waited until they were sufficiently on their way to begin singing along, not loud enough to be obnoxious but more noticeable than he usually did, which was under his breath while he was doing chores or just bored.
"Number forty-seven saidda number three: Yer da cutest jailbird I ever did see!" He sang with a wink in Lorna's direction. "I sure would be delighted wid yer company, come on n' do da jailhouse rock wid me!"

Lorna wondered if she'd ever be done rolling her eyes today. Probably not. She did notice (not for the first time) that he actually had a pretty nice voice, though, and couldn't bring herself to mind. She also couldn't bring herself to sing, but she did tap her thumbs on the steering wheel as she drove to all the exact beats and even got all the drum parts right a few times. If there was an Elvis song she didn't know by heart, she'd be surprised.
After pulling onto the highway she saw the amount of wreckage and considered turning back. She hesitated, but did in the end interrupt his song. "Do we want to go through this and shave off potentially an hour not including moving stuff, or do we want to go the long way?" She was asking him seriously- she knew full-well he'd be doing most of the grunt work. "It's up to you."

"Ya never ask a man whether or not he wants ta show off in front offa pretty lady." He used what little space he had to flex one of his arms, shifting his upper body in his seat to face her with a wicked grin and a waggle of his eyebrows.
" 'Sides, in all seriousness-" He said, as though he had any concept of the word, "We need ta conserve supplies, aye? Yer drivin', so I can nap if I get tired. When we're outta gas, we're out. Right?" He shrugged, relaxing back into his seat and waiting for his time to 'shine'. It wasn't that he was eager to actually do the labor, but eh. As far as he figured, it needed to be done, and he felt his logic on the matter was pretty sound for once.

His endless flirting wasn't exactly winning her over- or, it might have been but it would take hundreds of his actions to get points in her book. Lorna was always the first to assume that he flirted with everyone.
"Yeah, yeah, alright." She did her best to go around the wreckage, but after another moment she managed to hum along to the end of Jailhouse Rock. It was addicting! And repetitive! She only had so much stubbornness! She did have to stop to move some things eventually, though.
"Alright, this one's not too bad." She unbuckled and opened her door.

Bouncing out of the car to get ahead of her, he had figured he would be doing this alone. Although, since it was Lorna he was with, he didn't really know why he had thought that. She could be missing all of her limbs and she'd still be trying to find a way to do or help with everything.
"Ya know, it's kinda hard ta show off if yer here helpin' me." He pointed out in a teasing tone, pushing a car out of the way after putting it into neutral. It slid out of the way without much difficulty, but it was never just one car. He sighed internally. He thought that during the apocalypse there would be a shortage of car accidents, but somehow there always seemed to be a couple cars all squished together awkwardly as though the zombies had attempted to drive.
"Hey, do ya ever think dat da shufflers try ta do people stuff?" He asked as they worked on another vehicle, this one a little more awkward as they had to maneuver around the other obstacles in their way. "Like try'da drive or go to work?"

Lorna had been about to go into the undead's mind and comment on how it's not capable of functioning past 'there's food over there based on this sense' but she had a feeling that would look sketchy and also that it would probably kill the conversation.
"What, like that one in Warm Bodies who still kept waving the metal detector thing? I haven't thought about it," she said, reminiscing on that movie. "That would be pretty funny. What a bunch of morons." She managed a chuckle as she put another car in neutral and helped Rick move it with a grunt. She noted as he moved another car by himself that her nicknames for him were in quite poor taste. He was several inches taller than her and heavier to boot and he could move these cars with not too much difficulty. "I'll tell you what, I am impressed," she said as they headed back toward the car. She realized with a frown that she'd left it running. She needed to not do that in the future.

It took him a second to remember what she was referring to, but the memories of the movie she had referenced clicked and he started chuckling as well.
"Yeah, like, maybe all dese cars're like dis 'cause da stupid buggers keep try'na drive."
Moving onto the next car, he glanced over his shoulder to see Lorna watching him move it on his own and he felt his pride swell.
'Aw yeah, damn right I'm impressive. Hm hm hmmm~'
He strode back to the car with a spring in his step and an even wider grin on his face. He flopped inside with one hand gripping the top of the door frame as he landed in the seat, pulling his leg in and the door closed with that hand at the same time before shifting to face Lorna again.
"Ya gonna sing wid me again, boss?" He asked excitedly, wanting to keep the good mood going while it could last. He had spared the time to turn down the volume when they had been clambering out of the car, so he had no idea which song would be playing when he turned it back up. "Ya have an ab-so-lutely looovely voice, if you'll pardon my sayin'."

Lorna raised an eyebrow at him, though she was smiling while she did. "What would you know about my singing voice?" She was only being a little coy with that, she honestly hadn't thought he'd heard her humming. And even still, it was only humming. "I don't think humming quite counts," she said as she put the car in gear and pressed down on the gas pedal. From what she could see they might be clear for a few miles.

"I don't recall addin' 'singing' when I said yer voice was lovely." He pointed out just as coyly. "Although I'm sure it is, regardless!"
Figuring that was her way of saying 'Not a chance', he turned up the music to find it was now playing Hound Dog and shrugged his arms behind his head, very pleased with himself as he picked up singing again.

Lorna managed to only lightheartedly roll her eyes this time. "Ah huh," she said absentmindedly as he began singing, only to add, "I wonder how many people you've used that on," under her breath. Still, she couldn't help but admit that the simplicity of a drive with the passenger singing to Elvis was... nice. It had a callback to older times that she enjoyed. She did end up humming- when was the last time she was in this decent of a mood for so long? She wasn't sure, but it was a welcome change.
