At that, Rick really did feel a little offended, the teasing look on his face slipping into something darker.
"Excuse me." He tried to keep his tone light, cocking his hips to one side and flapping his hand at her. "Honey. Do I flirt wid Skylar or Jane even HALF as much as I flirt wid ya? No."
He answered for her, not even giving her a chance to argue.
"I know yer missin' an eye, but I didn't think dat made ya blind AND deaf."

"Excuse me?" she said, clearly aggravated. "First of all, the hearing in my right ear is spotty at best, but more importantly, Jane looks like a child and Skylar acts like a child." She was being harsh, but she didn't care. "I didn't think they counted to you! Do you blame me? You treat me like a piece of meat most of the time! I figured you just did it to me because you got off on my reactions or some shit."
She stood up and put the half-full can she'd been working on on a counter. "Not to mention the fact that even barring that I thought you might have had a type. Those two don't have hips and I do. So even then I thought, oh maybe just all women with hips." She couldn't help it anymore- she was on a tirade and she wanted to finish it.
"Excuse me for not BELIEVING you thought my military scars and oh-so-charming untreated-depressive personality were something to flirt with seriously! Do you know the last time I felt pretty? I don't know, maybe college? Even then probably not! So fuck you, Rick, I don't have to take this." She stared at him, breathing hard now. She only did that for a minute though, because soon she turned and headed for the door. She'd rather sit in a room alone in a house surrounded by zombies than sit with this asshole.

Holding up his hands defensively, Rick was torn between telling her to keep it down out of fear of the hoard outside hearing her lecturing him, and not wanting to offend her with the suggestion since he had clearly hit some kind of nerve he previously didn't know exist. Or maybe it was because of the incident and conversation they had experienced directly before she started ranting, but Rick had no way to know for sure.
"Hey..." He called after her, watching her march out of the kitchen and having absolutely no idea what to do after that. Was he supposed to follow her and apologize? Wait here and give her some space? Ignore it and pretend like that had never happened?
If it wasn't for the, you know, zombie hoard moving past the house right now, he probably would've chosen to keep hiding out in his own natural habitat of the kitchen. But seeing as he didn't even have the option to distract himself with some cooking, and he definitely didn't want to regret it later if something bad happened while they were separated, he put their cans of beans in the sink with a sigh and left.
"Lor?" He called out, not wanting to raise his voice too much. Would she even respond if she did hear him? With a defeated sigh, he sat at the bottom of the staircase, not wanting to reveal he was seeking her out like a lost dog quite yet by stomping his way up the stairs.
Well, this officially blew! Try to compliment a woman, and apparently make her hate you even more. Why was he even surprised, at this point?
Removing his hat, Rick ran his hands through his hair, before lacing his fingers together at the back of his neck and just sitting with his head bowed for a while. Now that he was alone and without anything to distract him, he noticed his head was starting to pound again. Probably as a result of the proximity of all the infected surrounding them. He didn't feel anything dripping down his forehead yet though, which was the only silver lining he could presently see.

Of course Lorna wasn't about to say 'yeah hey buddy I'm over here' when she heard her name. She sat in the dark for a few minutes around the corner at the top of the stairs. In truth, she didn't like it up here alone. She didn't like it in this house at all, really, but she didn't like it alone even more.
Several minutes passed before she eventually sat on the staircase and looked down at the lone pup at the bottom of the stairs. She wrapped her arms around her legs and rested her head on her knees, unsure of what to say. She meant what she said, or at least a part of her did. She had definitely overreacted, though. But that was her whole point! Even if she was outwardly attractive (in his opinion, psh), there was no way anyone could be attracted to her personality. Talk about a fiery redhead. Stupid. She hadn't meant to spill her life story either, but today had been stressful and long and she just wanted to sleep in her bed.
"Hey," she said after a while. "Are you tired?" No she would not apologize but she would at least be a decent person.

Startled when Lorna's voice caught his attention from the top of the stairs, Rick twisted around to look up at her with wide, green eyes. He blinked several times, taking a minute to translate that she had spoken words and was asking him something instead of telling him to bugger off again.
"Uh, yeah?" He replied, creeping up a couple steps on his hands and knees before stopping again and sitting obediently. "Are you?"

Lorna nodded at him and played with her braid, mentally realizing it was on the wrong side for the first time. She also realized she wasn't mad at him, she was more mad at everything that had happened that day and at herself for not realizing a guy was actually flirting with her for like half a year. Sometimes she was pretty sure her IQ was not in fact 172. Maybe more like 6.
"There's a bed," she said simply before scratching her neck. After a sigh, she swallowed her pride. "If you, uh, don't mind sharing." From the previous conversation she had a feeling he in fact did not mind sharing. "We can block the door with a bookshelf." She didn't want to drive tired, and it looked like they were stuck here for a while.

Rick debated pointing out, 'Clearly, I mind immensely...' in sarcastic tones, but he really didn't want to risk upsetting Lorna again, so he settled for crawling his way up the rest of the stairs before he was just a single stair below Lorna.
"I don't mind." He said as he ran a finger over the front edge of one of Lorna's boots. "If yer okay widdit. We could use some sleep, after da day we've had."

Lorna reached out to take Rick's hand and pull him the rest of the way up the stairs. She released it when he was at the top, but she thought maybe that would help convince him she was okay with it.
"I... don't really like.... sleeping alone," she admitted when they got to the door to the bedroom she'd been referring to. She pushed it open and tapped the bookshelf they needed to move. It was right next to the door and it was a pretty easy push- plus it was heavy enough that even if they were found and SOMEHOW a walker managed to get the door open, the noise the bookshelf made would be more than enough to wake them up. If Rick was anything like her, he was a light sleeper now too.

Pushing the bookshelf in front of the door without preamble, Rick sat on the edge of the bed and pulled off his boots, before unclipping his crossbrow and bats from his belt and setting them where he could easily snatch them up in the event of an emergency. No, he was definitely not busying himself with whatever random activity he could come up with instead of acknowledging the fact that he was about to share a bed with Lorna after the day they had just had, why do you ask get off his back? Setting his hat, belt, and socks off to the side as well, he was left with... nothing else he could really remove, 'least he might make Lorna think he was going full frontal on her. Sitting on the bed, he pat the spot next to him, at a loss for what else to do besides try to act like this was normalcy for them.

Lorna appreciated the minutes she had to take off her vest, boots, top shirt and belt with her glocks. She hesitated before taking the hair tie out of her hair and thought about removing her eyepatch, going so far as to hover over her ears where it looped around before deciding against it. Once she remembered she was wearing thick leggings she slipped out of her jean shorts as well and felt kind of bad for Rick. Who could sleep in jeans???
She folded up her clothes and set them near the bed. Afterwards, she made sure the safeties were off on her glocks and set them on the nightstand. When she looked over, Rick was (God bless him this was weird) trying to act like this was totally normal and she was thankful for it.
It was with an air of interest that she noticed he took up the exact amount of the bed that she didn't use when they laid back, staring at the ceiling before even trying to get comfortable. Now that the silence hung over their heads, it was more apparent that there was a swarm of walkers around them by the faint groans and obvious movement around them. She glanced over at Rick, and she wouldn't like to hear it said, but she looked scared. After a long bout of finagling, she made her way under the blanket and turned on her side toward the window.
"I forget sometimes that there are so many of them," she said simply, sounding distant and sad. She was actually wondering about who they were, what kind of lives they might have lead before and how many kids or family members they left behind, but she wouldn't say that out loud.

As he laid down, Rick put one hand behind his head, the other resting on top of his stomach as he focused on his breathing. It was something to distract himself with, instead of listening to the endless groans and footfalls of the walkers outside, that sounded so much louder now that the two of them had nothing to do but lay there in uncomfortable silence.
He felt Lorna looking at him, before she wormed her way under the covers and rolled away.
"Me too." He admitted, frowning up at the ceiling. "Sometimes things become so peaceful, if it wasn't fer de fact dat we're livin' kinda like farmers, I'd forget any of dese things existed at all."
He closed his eyes, willing similar thoughts to what was going through Lorna's head away. It was a lot easier for him than it was for her, and soon enough, he was relaxing more on top of the covers. He wasn't quite asleep yet, but his level of alertness was fading as the sounds of the undead outside almost became a kind of white noise to him.
"I'm glad yer here, though."

Lorna had a rough time falling asleep- but that was normal for her.
At some point, she woke suddenly, still hearing the sounds of the dead outside. She got out of the bed, wriggling her way out from under the covers, and moved her way to the window. It was completely dark now, and she could barely see the figures moving below them. It was enough to make her insides squirm as she watched the slight movement in the dark- like watching maggots crawl through carrion. She wrinkled her nose and held her hand up to her mouth, afraid she was going to puke.
She glanced over at Rick, whose large form rose and fell slightly as he breathed, and she turned to the bookcase, running her fingers carelessly over the spines. Closing her eyes, she found she could still remember what most of them were from the memory she had of the place. Most of them were useless, but there was one that she thought she might take with her. The memory of the room before was enough to give her vertigo, and she stumbled.
She fell backwards. Time slowed, and the result was it felt like she was falling for much longer than she should have, and she hit the floor with a thud. Finding she couldn't move, she suddenly felt a warmth on her. She reached to her head and pulled her hand down to see the dark splotches in the dark- she was bleeding. Bad. She turned her head to find her vest to patch this up, but when she picked her vest up, it revealed a hole in the floor.
Lorna looked down into it and sucked in a breath. The undead were in the house. They saw her. They started piling up- it was like they were funneling into a pile to get to her. The hand came forward and pushed to the floor and Lorna twisted and turned- they were already grabbing her- she was being constricted.
She bolted upright in the bed, whimpers escaping her throat, waking Rick up in the process. God dammit.

Rick was awoken with a start, hearing Lorna's frightened yelps and feeling her bolt upright in bed. It had him shooting a hand out to grab one of his weapons, willing his eyes to adjust to the darkness faster as he sat up as well, breathing hard.
When it became apparent there wasn't an actual threat in the room, he put down one of the bats he had ended up grabbing and touched Lorna's back gently, his head spinning after all of that excitement had swelled and then deflated in so short of a timespan.
"Hey, c'mere." He mumbled, pulling Lorna back down as he laid down as well. He was still partially asleep, his heart slowing back down as he wrapped an arm around Lorna's middle.
"Sleep." He commanded, already starting to obey the order himself.

Lorna fell back, closer to him this time and had been about to protest until she realized he was really warm and also she was still really tired. She turned toward him and draped her arm on his side as well, as that was what her arms usually did when she was asleep anyway. This time, though, she fell asleep swiftly and enjoyed a mostly dreamless sleep.
