"Just one." He teased, leaving Lorna to ruminate on that as she drove onwards and he sang along to the CD.
It wasn't long before Lorna was forced to stop the car again due to debris on the road, and with an exaggerated sigh, Rick rolled his neck and shoulders and climbed out of the car to get to work again.
"How many more times do ya wager we're gonna have ta do dis?" He called over to Lorna.

Lorna sighed at his quip, very extra sure he was joking. When they were forced to a stop again, she sighed for a second time- not that it was anything new to hear Lorna sigh about something.
"There's no way to really tell," she admitted with a shrug as she picked up what she could (some small logs and other things were in the way, but she managed to clear most of them before Rick shoved a car aside with even more of his usual enthusiasm when she was watching). "Hopefully not many more. The town's not far from here."
The road wasn't a quick getaway road (not to mention they were going east and most people fled north or south for some reason), so they were lucky as it was. At least if they took care of it this time they wouldn't have to the next. Lorna halted suddenly and shushed Rick, looking off into the distance around the road. She could have been imagining it, but she was sure she heard something.
"Ah," she said, pointing. "Stragglers." There were a few a ways off, but they weren't worth the bullets or the arrows as the case may be with her partner (she noted his crossbow had been hung at his belt at well and she found herself wondering just how strong that belt even was). She shook her head and pointed back to the car with her thumb. "Not worth it. Let's just get out of here."

((omg, the forum just ate like the beginning part of this post for no reason?? Luckily when I hit back, it saved this much, but still. >:[[ If I remember the intro I had later, I'll edit it back in here but kjsbghhfs. I need to run, have this much for now!!)) Their eyes caught it at the same time and Rick's hand flew to the handle of one of his bats, considering what to do. He considered Lorna the expert - she had been dealing with this kind of thing for far longer than he had. Still. He didn't want to risk her-- either of them-- no, that wasn't accurate, he was really more concerned with just her getting hurt in any way. "If yer sure." He admitted reluctantly, standing up and hustling towards her. "I just don't want it ta be a problem fer us on da way back." Eyes still on the stragglers, he unconsciously moved a hand to Lorna's lower back, a gentle pressure. When he looked away from the undead, he grinned at her in his usual manner, one eyebrow quirked. "But I trust ya. Yer call."

The touch of Rick's hand on her lower back was foreign to her- but definitely not unpleasant. It stabilized her in a way that made her even more confident when going through her mind for her thoughts on the encroaching biters.
"I think we'll be fine," she settled on finally before turning to him and nodding, hoping her eye contact was enough to relax him. "If it looks like trouble on the way back, we'll take another road."
She turned back to the car and got back in the driver's seat, securing her seatbelt firmly. She revved the engine and they were ready to go again. They did, and Lorna groaned when, so close to their off-ramp, there was another (far bigger than any they ran into prior) set of cars blocking the off-ramp. She glanced over at Rick and her shoulders slumped. With a sigh though, she got out of the car and got to work.
"We just need a path- we don't have to clear it all," she said half-heartedly as she gazed out at the dozen or more cars just before the off-ramp.

"What a bunch of a-holes." Rick grumbled loudly, sounding oddly censored given his usual language usage. Taking his place at Lorna's side, he got to work helping her move one car out of the way, figuring that was good enough as he stood back and scratched his head at the rest of the mess before them.
The way he figured, he had to put more thought into it this time than just 'move heavy thing out of the way', since they didn't have as much space to work with and as Lorna said, they simply needed to clear a path, not move every single piece.
Heading towards one he thought might be good to move next, he slipped his hand against Lorna's lower back again as he passed her, pulling her with him. He stopped short as he tried the door handle, surprised to find it locked. Someone had bothered to lock their door before getting out of their vehicle they then abandoned? Why?? With increasingly irritated grumbling, Rick nodded at Lorna to keep an eye out, as he was about to make a bit of noise as he unfastened one bat from his belt and readied it to smash it into the window.
Position himself first, he did two slow swings to make sure the distance and angle were right before he took one good, deep breath in and swung forward aggressively. The window shattered, and that satisfied him somewhat. It was nice to do more than sit in a car and sing, or shove cars around and move debris.
Unlocking the door now, he went about the usual business of shifting gears, bracing his hands appropriately, and planting his foot as he began to push.
"Ya ain't nothin' but a hound dog," he picked up between pushes. "Cryin' all the time~ " It didn't sound like the most accurate melody with all his pauses, but still. It helped passed the time as they shifted things around.
"Well, ya caught nothin' but a rabbit, n' ya ain't no friend'a mine-- aw, come on, Lor." He whined, sending her puppy dog eyes across the front of a car they were moving together.
"Won't ya pleeeease sing wid me? Dere's like, only two cars left ta move." He wasn't entirely sure if that was accurate, but it looked like they were almost done at any rate.

Lorna was still on edge, barely hearing him sing as she strained her ears for more of the lurkers around. When he said her name (or a shortened version of it anyway), though, she looked over at him and suddenly remembered he was singing 'You Ain't Nothin' But A Hound Dog.' She looked around again (almost looking more like she was watching for witnesses rather than looking for stragglers), but did join in eventually, though somewhat weaker than Rick.
"When they said you was high classed, well, that was just a lie," she sang, distracted. She repeated the line again, still working on figuring out which car was best to move. She certainly didn't have the best voice, but it wasn't terrible either. Sheer practice from her youth when she went to church twice or more a week (damn Mormons and their need to be at church all the freaking time) and when she'd belt out her favorite songs in her teens had to mean something eventually- not to mention the fact that her mother had a good singing voice.
"Well, you ain't never caught a rabbit and you ain't no friend of mine."

Shocked and overjoyed with his victory, Rick fistpumped at the air before joining back in, both in singing and in moving things out of the way. Their voices intermingled over the sounds of their labored breathing and the movement of the cars wheels against the pavement, and Rick thought it was simply unjust Lorna had refused every opportunity to sing along with all of he and Skylar's solos (and sometimes duets, if they both knew the song) this whole time.
"See? Told ya you had a lovely voice." He walked up to her in between their work, thumbs hooked into his belt loops as he surveyed her surveying their next tactic. If she had anything to say in reply to his comment, or him oogling her, she didn't voice it, just stood considering with one of her hands poised against her chin and the other clasping the elbow of the opposite arm.
Shrugging, Rick removed his hat to wipe the sweat from his brow, only to flinch when his hand came in contact with the spot on his forehead.
"Ow." He blurted thoughtlessly, lowering his hand to see it coming away with a wet-looking streak of grey. His eyes widened - as did Lorna's when she turned to him to see why he had expressed discomfort. They made eye contact and looked away at the same time, staring down the road instead. They both knew what that usually meant.
And their suspicions were confirmed. In the distance down the way, they could see the form of several figures wobbling towards them.
"Shit." Rick breathed, almost dropping his hat in surprise before forcefully yanking it on his head (and further irritating his forehead in the process). "Where'd dey all come from?"

"It doesn't matter." Lorna thought fast, looking around and trying not to lose her cool while she did. After making some mental calculations, she looked over at Rick and then back over at the other cars. It would be close, but...
"How fast can we move three cars?" she asked, pointing at their easiest opening. "If we can do that, then we can block them off and take the other way when we leave- if they're even still here when we go." They were approaching still, though, regardless of how quickly she formulated a plan, and there wouldn't be a lot of time for debate. Lorna could see the recognition in Rick's eyes as he looked around. They'd block them off by pushing a car back in the road after they got past the build-up. It would be risky and it would all depend on how quickly they could move cars. They both knew what it meant- it meant that one of them was going to be in danger-- but fighting a group that large with no sort of barrier would put them both in danger for longer. Lorna would rather herself be in danger, quite honestly, but she hoped rather than say it out loud, she could communicate that with an intense look.
Lorna had a feeling this horrendous build-up was probably stacked up on purpose, either to keep something out, or maybe to keep something in. Whether or not that was true she didn't know, but they had to get in one way or another.

Seeing her look but pointedly refusing to acknowledge it, Rick spun to face the cars so quickly it had the weapons at his belt spinning with the momentum, before they moved as far as they could with the limitation of his belt and bumped against his hips and the sides of his legs. Reaching behind him, he grabbed one of Lorna's hips and guided her to follow him, setting to work as quickly as possible to move the cars out of the way. He felt the wonderful rush of adrenaline helping him out as he launched himself into the task, making short work of the last of their obstacles.
Glancing over his shoulder, he swore under his breath at the advancing zombies. They were close enough now to make out some of the details, none of them pleasant, and he stared hard at Lorna, commanding her to jump in their vehicle and drive through.
"I can move a barricade back inta place faster." He pointed out at her disgruntled look. "Also, immunity. Suck it." He held two fingers up to his mouth in a splayed V, lashing his tongue out between them. It was the most vulgar gesture he had made in awhile, and it almost felt foreign to do it now. But, regardless, it certainly got his point across as Lorna looked simultaneously disgusted but determined as she hopped into the driver's seat.

Lorna yelled a flurry of crude nicknames through the driver's window as she drove out of the way, but she ended it with, "And please don't die, you stupid, caring, moronic, sweet asshole with a death wish" so really, it was touching considering those were probably the kindest words she'd used to describe him maybe ever. Definitely ever.
As soon as the car was out of the way, she got out of it and ran back to get a better look at what Rick was doing, praying that she wasn't going to find a Rick-sized splatter on the ground.

"Love ya too!" Rick hollered as Lorna drove past him. Laughing loudly, and maybe a little hysterically, Rick grabbed the nearest car and started yanking it forward. He didn't care how he moved them at this point, as long as they were in the way. He could hear the familiar gurgling of the walkers clearly now, not right on top of him yet, but the smell had long since reached his nostrils and he crinkled his nose at the stench. It always, without fail, made him want to retch.
Panting after having successfully moved two cars back into the way, he chanced a look over his shoulder to realize the eagerest of the crowd of the dead were only a few feet away from him now. The jaws of several of them were hanging open, some of them gnashing open and closed as if preparing for the flesh they probably thought they were about to feast upon.
"Jokes on you, fuckers!" Rick yelled uproariously at them as he pulled another car into the way. Shit, would that be enough? Did he have time to move one more? "I'm not on da menu!"
Catching Lorna's eye over the small blockade of cars he had building up again, he decided to hell with it and he would pull at least one more car into the way.
The nearest one was a beaten up truck, looking like it had been worse for wear even before the apocalypse happened. He couldn't remember if they had had difficulty moving this one - he had been too distracted singing to really pay attention, and he also had Lorna helping him at the time. Gripping the wheel through the window as he attempted to move it, he braced his feet against the pavement and pushed with all his might.
At this point, one of the walkers were close enough to him to scrape its nails across one of his arms, but he focused on steering the truck as he had it collide with the other ones he had lined up.
"Rick!" Lorna shouted at him, clearly indicating she would prefer it if he would get the fuck out of danger already, thank you very much.
Lifting one leg now that he didn't need to keep planting one in front of the other to get the stupid truck to move, Rick slammed the bottom of his boot into the chest of the zombie that had clawed at him, sending it tumbling backwards into the ones behind it rather comically.
'It's like bowling!' He mused, as he yanked himself on top of the hood of a car and started stomping his way across them to reach Lorna.

Lorna, now looking rather frazzled as she had torn some more of her hair out of her unruly bun in her nervousness, grabbed Rick's hand and ran back to the car, only releasing it when they needed to round the car in opposite ways to get to their seats. In her haste, though, she managed to carelessly scrape her hand on her door. In the heat of the moment she hadn't felt it- her mind was much more focused on other things and she didn't notice it when she gripped the wheel, as the cut was on the inside and her nerves were still high.
She glared back through her rearview mirror at the stragglers and barely gave them a second look before gunning the car and taking off down the ramp. Her eyes were focused on either side of the road, ready to either ram into a walker or avoid it expertly. She was very conscious of her blind spot at the moment. Her hair was hung around her shoulders now, what was left of the bun hung around her neck. She had half a mind to fix it, but she kept her hands gripped hard on the steering wheel instead, blood still pumping from the close call.
"Are you okay?" she asked breathlessly as she drove down the quiet road, on the final stretch. This was the road that would put them directly in the middle of the town, and it was looking strangely deserted. Well, most towns were, but she had expected to see lurkers or something.

" 'M fine. Whadda 'bout yer hand?" He asked, words slurring a little from the adrenaline high. Honestly, she looked worse for wear than he did. And when he noticed blood smeared across the steering wheel as Lorna adjusted her hands on the wheel, his eyes widened and he poked the back of her hand.
"Woah, hey, what happened dere?" He kept a loose clasp around her wrist, wanting to inspect her hand but not wanting to take it off the wheel.

Lorna blinked at him and glanced down at her hand, noticing the blood at that point.
"Oh. I scraped it... on the door. But I didn't think it was severe enough to bleed," she said distantly, now lifting her hand off the wheel so he could see. "It's fine, when we get there I'll bandage it." Now that she noticed it, it did kind of hurt, but they weren't far away, so she wasn't worried about it.
"Thank you," she said after a period of silence. Whether she was thanking him for risking his life for her (as usual) or for noticing her hand and caring about it when she didn't, she wasn't sure, but she didn't feel like clarifying.

Hmphing at her dismissal of her own injury, he lifted up her hand and planted a gentle smooch on the back of her knuckles before letting go, expecting a smack for it.
"Yer welcome."
If he cared about her lack of clarification, he didn't indicate it. Adjusting in his seat, he held onto the brim of his hat with one hand while feeling his forehead underneath with his opposite hand. It still hurt to the touch, but it seemed to be getting better. At least he hadn't wound up with junk all over his face like he had in the past. Removing his hand, he inspected his fingers to find them a little icky, and with nothing else to do about it, he wiped them on his torn and already thoroughly stained pant leg with a sigh.
"Mooooooom, are we dere yet?" He asked in a childish falsetto, resting his head in his hand with his elbow on the door of the car.
