CandyLeptic
Rashad ran quickly, but out of the corner of his eye he swore he saw something white move...? He stopped dead to see his bunny or, a similar looking bunny, peeking its head from the snow banks. "Oh! You're ok-" He slipped in the snow, as he wasn't paying attention, and was down!! He fought to get up, but one of the first zombies were right behind him! He was about to call out when the zombie's head burst and exploded, covering the snow around him red. He looked up to see a pissed Malina, who was pulling him up, "YOU ALMOST DIED. FROM A FUCKING RABBIT." They took off again for the trees!
macxcheese
Jane gasped at the gun shot and shielded herself from the resulting splatter. As soon as Rashad got up she took off again, trying to keep up with Malina. She tried not to look behind her as she ran, focusing more on the running part. As soon as they hit the trees, Jane searched for a good one to climb. They were all too tall though, and the branches weak looking. “I-I don’t think t-there’s going to be c-climbing!” she breathed out.
CandyLeptic
Rashad caught up wearily and halted to inspect the trees, before gasping and doing a back take. He looked left and right but couldn't find Malina, and he inched towards Jane with a finger over his lips. He tried to steady his breathing, but he heard a tree branch snap closeby- He instinctively put his back to Jane and held his gun out, listening. His hands were shaking terribly though... He heard another sound, much closer and pulled the trigger--- but he wasn't ready for the recoil (he never was!) and the shot went upwards! He stood in stupor for a moment before bumping Jane towards the center of the forest- and ran towards it, holding his gun out and almost running backwards in case it caught up!
macxcheese
Jane stayed as still as statue, her wide eyes frantically searching for the source of the sound. She jumped at the bang of the gun and almost slipped on the snow.
She was already running by the time Rashad bumped her, only now realizing Malina was nowhere to be seen. She glanced back and forth, then saw movement to her right. “Malin- AH!” Something very much not Malina swung its arm at her. She ducked and swung her ax back at /it/. It only went through air though and sent her off balance. She stumbled, fell on her back, and put her legs up as the thing fell on her. She was barely out of its reach and her fingers fumbled for her gun. “HELP!” she rasped out.
CandyLeptic
Rashad stopped dead before screaming "JANE" and aiming his gun, only to see the zombie burst into a huge puddle of red around them. He breathed for a second before running over to Jane-- He didn't fire his gun!! He felt a sharp pain to his head suddenly--- a Rock??? He looked up confused to see an annoyed Malina halfway up a tree- how he managed to climb it, he had no idea. "Are you okay Jane!!?" she called out! She knew a headshot when she hit one though!
macxcheese
She’d been better! She blinked and tried to wipe some blood off her face, gagging when she saw it stain her coat. She managed a weak yes to Malina and jumped up. She was about to ask what next when she saw more of /them/ coming. “S-shit,” she whispered.
CandyLeptic
"Sorry Jane!" She muttered before almost loosing her balance on the stupid tree. "AND YOU/." She yelled at Rashad, "STOP SHOOTING THE TREES. UGH." She tested another branch; "You guys run, I'll get what I can up here!" Rashad nodded, still weary of Jane's close call and too shaken to speak, and ran forward, making sure Jane was ahead. Malina got her footing okay and aimed, licking her lips. This, believe it or not, was her "Comfort zone"!
macxcheese
Jane ran as fast as she could, her backpack jingling as she did. She wasn’t comfortable leaving Malina behind, but she wasn’t going to argue with her! Her shoe crunched through another bloody patch, and it went unnoticed by her. Her heart felt like it was beating a thousand miles per hour. She wondered when they would stop.
The answer came in the form of a cliff side, shearing off from the mountain she’d noticed a few days back. She stopped and looked nervously at Rashad, stating the obvious, “We can’t go forward.”
CandyLeptic
Rashad breathed quickly but silently; he didn't like leaving Malina alone either, but he knew she'd be all right- she'd seen worse! He felt all his blood leave him when they came close to the cliff side, and he shook his head left to right quickly- Think! Think! There had to be a way out...! "Okay, okay" he stammered between breaths, "We- We follow the left side of the cliff, and run around the outside of the forest- the zombies should be in the heart, and we'll run back to the car. Malina..." What about Malina?? "...Might see us on the way! Let's go!" She'd figure it out!! They could always meet her towards the front, assuming she's in the same place...
macxcheese
Jane gave a quick nod and started off again. She followed closely to the wall and watched the outline of the forest pass her by. Soon a figure came into view, and she chucked her ax at it as soon as it was close enough. Amazingly, it stuck in its chest, and while that didn’t kill it, it did send it to the ground. Jane ran up and yanked the ax out, then struck it for a finishing blow. Oddly enough, it was quite satisfying. But still disgusting. The only thing that kept her from ralphing was the fact that she didn’t have time for it.
CandyLeptic
"Oh my God" Rashad muttered and Jane took one out. He was what- 7 years older, and that meant she had killed more zombies than him- even if...it was just one...! But no time for that! Holding his gun close to his thighs with both hands, he ran quickly, but suddenly slowed at the rustling of nearby bushes on the outskirts of the forest. He wearily raised his gun and closed one eye, telling his hands over and over that they COULD be steady and he COULD fire a gun. He took a step back and bit his tongue when a bloodied figure emerged- walking normally? He lowered his gun; Malina was covered head to toe in blood. She wiped her face and hands. "Don't look worried, you know it isn't mine," she laughed. She held up eight fingers, "Eight. Eight killed!"
macxcheese
Jane turned back when she heard Malina’s voice and chimed in, “We should keep running!” Oh god, all that blood. She put a hand to her mouth and quickly turned away. She was almost considering going back to the motel just for a shower.
CandyLeptic
"Good plan!" The siblings accidentally said at the same time before exchanging a quick look and starting to run."Where to?" Malina yelled as she jogged, "I don't think there's any left!" Rashad shook his head, "Jane didn't count eight behind us when we left, so they're in waves!! Back to the truck, we're peeling out of here!"
macxcheese
Jane followed behind the two, checking back every now and again. Luckily nothing appeared, and a few minutes later the car was in sight. She sped up and reached for the door handle as it came closer.
CandyLeptic
Rashad ran and yanked the the handle- locked. Locked??? Keys! Keys?? He searched all his pockets. Keys.... "No....way..." he mumbled. They were in the motel. He felt his soul literally sink. Malina got to the handle too and hopped up on the bed of the truck, tossing her bag in. "Rashad you can't do anything!" She yelled, actually half lightheartedly, only because she knew the back window didn't lock!! She pulled it open, crawled in and kicked open Jane's door first, then Rashad's. She sat in the middle, proud, until Rashad sat still and breathed for a moment. He stared at the wheel before muttering a firm and sane "We can't start the truck without the keys." Malina blinked, and then sunk in her seat, "Oh."
macxcheese
Jane’s heart sunk as well and she looked longingly at the motel. There wasn’t a chance- a few of /them/ were loitering by the entrance. So she hopped in the car and closed the door. At least it would give some protection! She began motioning for Rashad to do the same when the sound of gravel crunching caught her attention. A small jeep came roaring up and it stopped right in front of their car. A man stuck out his head and said in a thick Russian accent, “Come with me if you want to live!”
CandyLeptic
Rashad blinked at the jeep and very slowly moved his hand to the lock button. *Click!* Malina stared at him, actually more scared than she had been in a really long time! She mumbled, "My rifle's in the back." Rashad, without words and without taking his eyes off the man, reached down, grabbed his pistol, and place in in her hands, She felt it for a moment, still frozen, and muttered a "Thanks."
macxcheese
Jane didn’t know what they were thinking, but she felt like this was a better choice than holing up in the truck. She’d seen some zombie movies back before, and no car scene ended well.
“Guys,” she whispered, eyeing the jeep, “do you have a better plan? Because I personally do not see one.”
CandyLeptic
Malina looked at Jane and then back at the gun. "Wwwelll, I was going to blow his brains out but..." Rashad rubbed his eyes, "Malina." She blew out her cheeks- she was only kidding...Rashad took a deep breath and then looked at the girls for a moment. "Oh..Okay...I go first, okay? Malina-" She had already got her things from the back, including her gun. She put the revolver in Rashad's hand. "Don't die." He swallowed and nodded, "Yeah." He hopped out of the truck- Ghandi- His BABY- and put both of his hands up to indicate no harm and he approached the man. "Oh please, God, I don't want to die..." He muttered, but tried to keep a straight face.
macxcheese
Jane pressed her forehead against the window and nervously watched Rashad approach the car. She hoped this wasn’t some trick.
The man stuck his head out farther and put his hands up as well. “I mean no harm, only here to help. You and your friends there should come with me before those demons notice you are here! Please believe me, I am a servant of the Lord!”

Rashad slowed, and lowered his hands, just slightly. "A...a servant of the..." His eyes lowered from the man's face and down to the man's clerical collar. He was a priest! An older priest. Who had a car. Most likely with keys in it. Rashad's eyes went from the steam the Jeep produced back to the old man's face. "F-Father, how can we possibly trust you?" He was now much more aware of the gun at his hip. "How did you find us?" He had to have known there were others, as Malina and Jane looked from inside the car. Malina was very alert; the second the man made a wrong move, she's get him! No one was killing Rashad today.
macxcheese
The man blinked and rubbed his beard, then shrugged. “You cannot be sure,” he answered simply. “But your other option is looking bleak.” He gestured to the motel and continued, “I heard the yells and saw smoke coming from the chimney last night.” He leaned farther out the window and pointed behind them. “Boy, you should be hurrying.”
Jane followed his finger and saw /them/ approaching. She whipped her head back and gritted her teeth.
CandyLeptic
Rashad breathed out steam and looked behind him- Oh dear Lord. He returned his gaze to the man, nodded, and booked it for his truck. He tapped on the window hurriedly and Malina kicked the door open; "Are we going to -" "No, we are not killing him." He fastened his bundle on his person and quick as he can, and making sure the girls where following him, ran towards the Jeep.
macxcheese
Jane threw her backpack on her shoulder and followed Rashad, glancing back to those approaching every few seconds. When they finally made it to the other car, she took a good look at the man. He was older, maybe late fifties, early sixties, with receding gray hair and a short gray beard wrapping around his jaw line. He wore a faded blue fleece with
a clerical collar showing under it and, as she passed by, Jane noticed a few fingers missing. She quickly averted her gaze and climbed in the back seat.
When everyone was settled in, the man slowly started the car, pulling around to leave. He looked over at Rashad and stuck out his hand. “Father Sergej Volkov, very good to meet you.”
CandyLeptic
Malina got in the back with Jane and threw her bag on the floor with a thump. She glared at the man from the back seat. She didn't trust strangers! Not like Rashad. She actually would have preferred the zombies, at least they were stupid. Men, on the other hand, were just as agile, but also greedy, in her opinion. She kicked the back of Rashad's seat to let him know she really wasn't down with this. Rashad got in the front seat, giving Jane and Malina a long look before sitting down. He really hoped this was safe. He'd never forgive himself if they got hurt, and the thought of that made him shake for a second. He saw the outstretched hand, but instead put his own hands in a prayer-like form; "Namaste, Father." he said with a small bow. Malina, although she detested it, did the same from the back.
macxcheese
Jane didn’t agree with the situation either, yet the other option was even less agreeable. And anyways, it was three to one right? And the man- Volkov- was old, right? She sighed and pressed her forehead on the window. She would see if they could leave when they reached safety.
Volkov furrowed his brow at the greeting, but quickly replaced it with a smile and mirrored the action. “And you are?”
CandyLeptic
Rashad thought deeply for a moment. Fake names meant nothing- names meant nothing. But he had to be careful. If he lied, he'd have to be sure to keep it straight. He assumed Volkov was Russian, and definitely a religious man. "I am Doctor Rashad Ezra. This is my niece and cousin," he said, referring to Malina and Jane, respectfully. Good, he thought, establish family ties. Reasons to protect each other. "We are between traveling from barricade to barricade, offering our services."Jane and Malina are the one's in the back." Lie about last names, he learned! It's obvious if you don't respond to the first name you've chosen. It did feel sacrilegious to pick a Christian last name over their given one...
macxcheese
Jane’s head perked up and she listened quietly as Rashad told his lie, making sure to remember all the details.
Volkov smiled, his eyes crinkling around the edges. “So good to meet you. May I call you Rashad, or would you prefer doctor?” He glanced back, nodding to the two girls. Jane gave a small smile and nudged Malina’s foot, hoping she’d get the hint. The priest turned back around and continued driving. Soon they were on a path headed towards the mountai
n.
CandyLeptic
Malina gave him a wide, extravagent smile, but the second he turned again, she glared at him. She knew what Rashad would say- Play the nice little kid card. She very well could longer younger than her age and Rashad older- And he prompted her to use it for her advantage. Kids would arouse any sense of pity anyone had- And Rashad knew very well Jane could pass as young, too. "Rashad's fine, Father! May I ask, if... If I'm not to be too direct, where you reside? Is it safe, I mean, to be completely honest. The...the young girls in the back," He shook his head, "I...I couldn't bear to let anything..." He didn't finish the sentence.
macxcheese
“Yes, very safe,” he assured Rashad. “I live in this mountain, in a cave. I clean it out myself, you see. It’s very good.” The jeep steadily drove to the mountain side. Finally they arrived and Volkov pulled the jeep behind a cover of shrubbery. “It is up a ways, only a little though. None of you are injured I take it?”
CandyLeptic
A mountain, Rashad thought, was smart but, not practical. It wasn't until they drove past a sign advertising a gyser he realized- it would be heated. Heat. Free, easy, natural heat. It was genius. But...why would a priest stay in a single area? Wouldn't he move around? Unless his age prohibited him; perhaps he was sick. Rashad's head snapped up, "Oh-" he turned to the girls, "No, none injured." For a split second he almost faked an injury, but had to remind himself- he introduced himself as a doctor. ""Father are you...sure we are not a burden on you? Are there others?" He said, as he got out of the Jeep. Malina got her stuff and hopped out, keeping a cautious eye on the man. She made her way up the mountain, being sure she remembered every possible way out. Rashad, on the other hand, was fixated on learning more about the priest. "Do you have family?"
macxcheese
“Good, good,” he replied. The priest led them up maybe twenty feet up on a good sized path. As they walked, he talked to Rashad. “No, of course not. We must help each other in this time of reckoning.” They came to a small opening, covered by a shroud of leaves. “There are no others, no. Most stay for only a while. And I do not have family, no.” He
pulled back the shroud and gestured for them to go inside.
macxcheese
Jane stayed in the back of the group, planning escape routes as well. She wasn’t quite comfortable with dark caves and rocky terrains, and could almost feel the last time she’d hurt her ankle. Either way, she ducked inside the cave and let her eyes adjust.
CandyLeptic
Rashad and Malina felt their eyes adjust too. It was dark. "How far down are you?" Rashad asked when they went through. Malina squinted. This was just SPEAKING danger. If she took out her gun he'd be suspicious. She had to be more lax. More poker faced. "Father," she said, innocently as possible, "How do you see in here??" She put her hands in her hoodie pocket- and felt for her tazer. The batteries were hopefully still good. She wouldn't turn in on just yet, but she put a thumb on the switch.
macxcheese
“Not far down,” he said, pushing on. He smiled back at Malina and said, “It takes a moment, child, but you’ll get use to the dark.” He led them to another small hole in the wall, which opened into a large cavern. The room was covered with candles, giving it a dim glow. Stalactites hung from the ceiling, and a ways off the sound of rushing water cou
ld be heard. To the right there were a few sleeping bags, along with pillows and blankets. To the left was a store of food, and next to that a small prayer space. The center held a large blanket, a few books strewn across it. “Welcome. Please, make yourself at home.”
Jane’s eyes finally found light and she looked all around at the space. It looked pretty non-threatening, and the sound of water sounded promising. She remembered to keep her guard up though. She didn’t know this man and he’d have to earn his trust.
CandyLeptic
Rashad had to blink back at the light, but when he finally saw it- he felt tears form. It was so beautiful. Lights, food, warmth. No more work, no more nasty motel. Blankets, pillows, BOOKS. BOOKS. He looked up to the man and down to them. "You have books??" Like a kid in a candy store, he inched towards them. If there was any way to put the world away, it was through books! Malina's brow crossed. Why did he have so much if he didn't have people living here? Maybe this was like... a pit stop shelter, and he was the only one left? "Aren't candles fire hazards?"
macxcheese
Volkov gave a hearty laugh at Rashad and motioned towards the books. “Please, feel free to browse while you are here. You may even take one if you would like!” He gave Malina another warm smile and ignored her.
Jane inched around the room, trying to catch heat from the candles. She heard the priest behind her say, “Child, put down your baggage and rest.” She smiled and gripped her backpack strap, then finally decided she might as well. She set it away from the burning lights and continued her inching. Soon she realized she wasn’t wearing her bandana acros
s her face, and desperately hoped Volkov didn’t recognize her. She made eye contact with him again and was relieved when it seemed he did not.
“Now!” Volkov exclaimed. “Would you three like a meal?”

CandyLeptic "Oh, I really couldn't-" Rashad said, even though he practically ran over and took a seat on the mat- only after he was careful to slip his shoes off! Malina considered that too but wasn't sure how clean the ground was, so she left her boots on. "What kind of food do you eat?" It was like that mole people comic she read years back. /Probably people/, She would be so pissed if he ended up a cannibal.
macxcheese “I have a few things, mostly canned,” Volkov replied. He ambled towards his stash of food and made a sweeping motion. “Please, pick out what you like. I do recommend the- what is it called-Chef Boy!” He grabbed one of the cans and held it out to her.
Jane reached another opening in the wall and, noticing the sound of water coming from it, asked, “Is there a river in here?”
Volkov nodded and pointed past her. “There is hot springs! Very nice and warm.”
CandyLeptic "Chef boy?" She tried to kick the sassy out of her voice but it was still apparent. Rashad looked up from one of the books he had sifted through- he had got pretty far!- "Hot springs? A part of the geyser nearby then?" He looked back, "Did the water form these tunnels then?'
macxcheese Volkov shrugged. "I cannot tell you, though if that is how it works I would guess!" He handed the can to Malina and patted her on the head. "If you would like you may bathe in them," he told the three.
Jane peeked her head into the opening, but only saw darkness. She wasn't sure she was okay with "bathing" in a dark cavern with people she'd only known for a week or less!
CandyLeptic Malina's eyes widened at being patted, and she held the can down, "Whoa there man, I'm not bathing in ravioli. You definitely have a problem-" Rashad immediately turned to her- "Malina!! Please! Sincerest apologies, Father!"
macxcheese Volkov stared blankly at her for a moment, then laughed. "Do not worry," he told Rashad. To Malina he said, "You are amusing, child! Please, eat, eat!" He grabbed two more cans and worked his way over to Rashad. "Please," he said, giving him some soup. He tossed a can to Jane, who clumsily caught it. "Thank you," she squeaked. Volkov nodded and sat on the blanket. "So, where do you come from?"
CandyLeptic Malina gave him a look. "Still not bathing..." and took out a small pocket knife from her bag. She peeled the can's top clean off and started to straight up drink its contents. Rashad rolled the can in his hand after thanking him. He stared at the can while he thought; if he admitted to being from India, Jane's nationality would be in question. Still, Malina's accent was obvious. "New York," he explained, before laughing, "Little India. Our friend Jane here was a performer, actually!" He was hoping stating something THAT out there would distract from the fact their whole family is likely not from India. "I had just graduated medical school and Malina from the seventh grade when it happened.
Where would you be from?"
macxcheese Jane was pleased at the easy open lid on the can, and popped the top off. She starting scarfing the ravioli, careful not to let any drop on the floor. She was unsuccessful though after spitting out a piece of pasta when /Rashad totally gave her up/! She glared daggers at him and attempted to save herself. "Only small time!" she lied. "Coffee shops and all that!" The man looked old enough, maybe he wouldn't know!
Volkov nodded, surprised at Jane's spit take. "How interesting! Do you know any gospel hymns?"
"Only a few," Jane responded.
The old man smiled. "You should sing some soon. Maybe on Christmas. It is coming up quickly." Turning to Rashad he asked, "And you, what did you do?"
CandyLeptic Rashad looked so confused- Didn't Jane know this was all a lie? Maybe she wanted to pick her own occupation, he figured! Too late now, he supposed! "I actually have interned at several leading hospitals in our area before completing my degree work! I actually did have plans to specialize in pediatrics. Sadly, I do not see that happening!' He said with a sigh and a smile as he leaned back and started to work on his own can of food. Malina raised a brow- how come this guy didn't answer Rashad's previous question? Shady!
macxcheese "A doctor." Volkov said a bit flatly. "How nice." With that, he stood up and brushed himself off. "I think I will sleep now. I suggest you do the same." He drifted towards the sound of the water and disappeared.
Jane lowered her can and looked at the two siblings. "So...", she whispered in a questioning tone.
CandyLeptic Rashad looked up from his book and Malina finished cleaning her knife. At the same time they said, "I think he's nice/weird!" They looked at each other and Rashad turned to Jane; "How do you find him?"
macxcheese Jane shrugged and looked where they had come from. "I don't think we really have a choice though." She grabbed a sleeping bag and dragged it over to her backpack, nodding goodnight to the other two.
When she opened her eyes the next morning, Volkov was back. Watching them. As soon as he noticed her awake, he smiled. "Good morning... Jane right? Would you like something to eat?"
Jane shook her head, instead eyeing the entrance to the hot springs. "You mentioned, er, bathing right? Could I do that?"
Volkov nodded, still smiling. "Yes, yes. Let me show you!" He stood, and before Jane could stop him, gripped her shoulder. He led her through the entrance and along a short trail. At the end was a small pool. The whole time Jane wanted to rip herself away, but she managed some control. Volkov finally released her and motioned to the water. "Here we are. Please enjoy." Then he left her, returning to watch over his other two... guests.
CandyLeptic Malina's eyes opened the second Volkov came back. She KNEW someone was watching her- she could never sleep when someone was!! She sat up and pulled her hair back, and called out for Rashad- who was sleeping like a freakin' rock. "Hey." She called out to Volkov. "What happened to Jane?" She loosely felt for her tazer in her pocket (just in case!) Still there!
macxcheese "She is just bathing," he replied. He reached back to the cans and offered one to Malina. "A meal? You may bathe after her. It is quite soothing."
After a quick check, Jane undressed and splashed into the water. She sighed as she felt how warm it was and let herself fall the rest of the way. For a moment she floated there, but only for a moment. She didn't plan to stay long. She quickly scrubbed her skin with her hands and repeatedly rinsed her hair. She missed shampoo so much. She finally wrung her hair out one last time and made her way out of the spring. Then she heard it. A faint groaning, mixed in with the sounds of the hot springs. She briskly pulled on her clothes and looked for something to arm herself with. When she couldn't find anything, she made her way back in the water and waited.Nothing showed though. She'd been so sure it was one of /them/. Silently, she ran to the trail and back to the cavern, dripping wet and distressed.
CandyLeptic She took a can, keeping an eye on him while she did that. After getting it open, she murmured something about "Chef boy" only to stop when she saw a wet Jane come in. "Hey! Are you okay??" She put the can down and slid a hand in her stomach pocket.
macxcheese Jane looked between Volkov and Malina and pointed towards the door. "I- I thought I heard some of /them/," she whispered. She looked back at Volkov, hoping for an explanation.
Volkov waved her away, smiling. "No, no, it was just the cave settling. Yes, I thought so too once but not anymore." He saw Jane's clothes and got up. "You would like new clothes? Here, here." He shuffled to a pile of neatly folded clothes and found a long white shift. "Here," he said, shoving the dress into Jane's hands. "You will need clothes too, right?" he half asked Malina. He gave her a white button up and white pajama pants. "Good, good."
CandyLeptic "Wait- you mean zombies? In the spring?" She took the bundle from weirdo. "Uh... Okay..." If the springs had zombies though, she really was intrigued here. "Where are the springs again?"
macxcheese Before Volkov could shove Malina down the path, Jane blurted, "Down that trail and to the right. Just follow the sound of the water." She clutched the shift and sunk back into the tunnel, looking for a place to change.
CandyLeptic She started a little ways and stopped, "HEY. I can find it myself, okay??" She gave Volkav a pensive look and turned on her heel, ponytail flipping. /Don't even think about it/, she thought!! When she made her way down the tunnels, her eyes widened--so warm. And the water was clear and clean!! She found a place for her new clothes (What were with these things anyway??) and removed her outerclothing. Now in shorts and a cami, she knelt down next to the spring and rinsed her face. There was no way she was fully getting in, but she still attempted to wash her hair, at the least!! She dunked the majority of her head in, and- just for a moment, opened her eyes underwater. She flipped her head up and crawled backwards in shock-- She KNEW what she saw!! Further through the stream, one of /them/ was half submerged in the stream, too deep to be seen from the surface. It was stuck to the bottom level- weather it be through rock or what Malina had no idea, but she sure as hell wasn't finding out!

<macxcheese>Jane found a nice dark crevice to change in, and did so quickly. She smoothed out the shift once it was one and shuddered. This guy had such bad taste. Suddenly she heard yelling coming from Malina's direction and, after a moment of hesitation, ran down to find her swearing up a storm. "Hey, hey, hey, what's wrong?" Jane asked, her arms out in a "it's okay" position.
Volkav raised his eyebrow at the young girl and went back to keeping tabs on the eldest. He became slightly concerned after the one didn't come back for a while and peered towards the door. It would be too bad if they had, ahem, left.
Malina: “I KNEW this guy was a freak!” She exclaimed, “There’s a freakin’ ZOMBIE under the water! I REALLY don’t think that’s NORMAL.” She pulled at her shirt sleeves to cover her hands- she had been picking at scabs on them again, as she did when she was normal stressed, and they were bleeding. “I knew we should have left when we first got here, shitdammit!” She sniffed and looked back at the water.
Rashad: He stirred in his sleep. He rubbed his eyes and sat up when he realized it was quiet – too quiet. Malina wasn’t in the cot next to him! Of course, she’d probably be fine on her own, but as a ~responsible adult…~ Or… Who was he kidding? The kid probably committed murder by now. The snow had built up so much there wasn’t much of a chance of leaving the caves just yet, so he really had to make sure Malina was on good terms with the guy- even if he might be a little creepy.
<macxcheese>Jane stumbled back from the water, even though she had been no where near it. "Wh-what??" She stuttered. "I-" All her alarms were going off, and finally she nodded at Malina. "Let's get Rashad and get out of here. We'll just say that we're meeting some others." Volkav smiled at the now awake Rashad and grabbed a can. "Good morning, would you like to eat?"
Rashad: He stretched for a moment before brushing his hands through his (now quite long!) hair. “No thank you Father. I’m not hungry.” He actually was, but not enough to use up precious food. He got out of bed and wrapped his mat up. “Father, where are the others?” He laughed, “I hope my niece is not much trouble for you. She’s quite a handful for her age.”
Malina: “Okay, okay. We have to find him though.” She started heading back the way Jane was but…Was that the way SHE came? “Er…” She stopped for a moment. There were more tunnels on the opposite side, was she over there when she came in? She threw such a tantrum she didn’t remember how much she walked along side the pool. “Oh my God,” she muttered, “We’re totally lost.”
<macxcheese>Volkav nervously eyed the passage to the springs and stretched out his arm. Ignoring Rashad's question, he smiled wider. "Please, I- how you say.... insist!"
<macxcheese>Jane put a hand on her back and surveyed the tunnels. "No, I remember, we came from over there." She pointed towards one of the openings and hoped she was right. "C-come on, at least we'll be moving than sitting next to whatever's down there."
Rashad: He shook his head, “I’m not hungry, thank you.” Poor guy must be hard of hearing, so he spoke a little clearer and louder, “Where are Malina and Jane? Have they been up for long?” He grabbed his bag for clothes to change in that he washed earlier- but noticed someone had gone through it. “Father, has Malina gone through my-“ He stopped. That made no sense- she knew what was in there. If she needed anything, it was always kept in the outermost pocket- only his clothing and gun were in the main pocket. The hidden one kept medical supplies, but whoever had gone through that didn’t even notice it- apparently. He looked up, now a little cautious, “Father, did you…”
Malina: “Yeah,” She made her way down the tunnel, taser out, leading Jane. “Do you have your hatchet on you?” She muttered, not so much a question. Tasers worked well with people but…they didn’t do much against zombies. Malina hated herself for parting with her rifle, which she mistakenly left under her blanket.
<macxcheese>Volkov's cheery smile suddenly turned dangerous. "You /eat/," he demanded. He got up and marched toward Rashad, shoving the can towards him. It was all for naught though as Rashad reached for his gun, and the Father smashed the can into the boy's head, a little ravioli sauce flying out of a small hole in the lid. Volkov looked sadly on at the young man.
"You should have eaten son."
<macxcheese>Jane followed closely behind Malina, nervously eyeing the walls. "I didn't," she admitted. She really wish she had though, especially when she'd heard a dull thud sound. "W-wh-what was that?" she whispered harshly.
Rashad: Fell to the ground, completely out cold, with gun still in hand.
Malina: “I…don’t know…” She said, trying not to make much sound so that she could hear whatever it was! The duo came up to a sharp turn, and Malina (blame the video games) turned her back to the wall sharply and waited. Steps could be heard, closer and closer, and she held her breath. Suddenly, a chicken, well feed and alive made it’s way passed them- not in a particular hurry. Malina, freaked out and almost tased the thing before harshly whispering a confused and innocent “WhAATTTT.”
<macxcheese>Volkov tossed the can behind him and lightly picked up the gun and brushed it off, hoping he wouldn't have to use it on the two in the tunnels. After placing it in his belt, he grabbed Rashad's feet and easily dragged him down the pathway and into a small, inconspicuous space. He would have to dress him later, but that could wait for now. He did tie the boy's hands with a length of rope, just in case the hit wasn't as hard as he thought. Then it was time to hunt.
<macxcheese>Jane's breathing became quieter and quieter as they walked on, and she all but stopped breathing as well at the footsteps. The chicken surprised her too, so much so that she jumped in the air. "I-I-I-I-" She really had no answer for it and shrugged her shoulders, giving Malina a bewildered look. "We should keep movin," she suggested, and she started leading the way towards what she thought was the main room.
<macxcheese>What she didn't see was a three fingered hand clasp a sweet smelling cloth over Malina's mouth.
Malina: She fell behind as Jane went ahead, and looked back at the chicken apprehensively to feel hands over her face!!! She immediately went to let out a sound but it was muffled!! She managed to hit whoever it was fiercely with her elbow, but the taser went off! She misjudged it in the struggled, and the tounge caught her own wrist instead!! She tightened as she was shock and shook, but before she got the worst of it, the chloroform had put her out.
<macxcheese>The scuffle was never heard over the sound of rushing blood in Jane's ears. She cautiously walked on, peering into each new passage and trying to figure out where the right way was. "Malina, do you see anything familiar?" she whispered. A moment of silence passed and she repeated the question a little louder. Finally she turned around to get Malina's attention. Instead of Malina was Volkov, and she screamed as he shoved a cloth over her mouth. She jerked her head side to side and desperately tried to escape, yet her small punches did almost no damage and she fell to the floor.
<macxcheese>Volkov sighed and went to get Malina first, seeing as she would be the most trouble if she woke up. Once her hands were tied, he picked her up and threw her over his shoulder. He did the same with Jane and carried the both of them to where was Rashad was, ready to start the preparations for the ritual.
Rashad came to and felt sick to his stomach. Whatever he had been knocked out with managed to hit the same sore from the grenade blast, and it gave him a terrible headache. He moved a hand to rub his temples but it was behind him-tied. He was sitting back to back with Malina assumingly. He gave her a nudge but she was limp. Not /dead/ limp, but definitely out of it. He called her name a few times anyway, but no reply. It was dark- really dark, all of the caves were, but there was a multitude of candles not far off. He couldn’t make out what was directly in front of him, just pitch darkness. He turned to realize he was tied to two figures. His face fell. He had honestly hoped Jane had escaped, but it was not so. Not only would he then, he realized, be at fault for Malina’s death and his own, but her too, and his heart sunk. He leaned back on both of them, and started to pray under his breath.
<macxcheese>Jane's eyes opened to darkness. Was she dead? She kind of hoped she was dead. She tried to stand and only succeeded in falling back on her butt and bumping her head into someone else's. Actually two someone else's. Oh god she wasn't dead. She started shaking and tried to say one of their names, but no words came out. So instead she pulled her legs close her and silently cried.
<macxcheese>A match lit in front of the trio, and soon a candle as well. Volkov peered at them, his large smile plastered on his face. "You are awake. Good. How do you feel?" His voice contained actual concern and he carefully looked over his captives. "You are in good shape, yes? I tried not to harm you. Ah, but you are a stubborn one!" He laughed, motioning to Rashad.
Rashad looked up at him, but had to look away for a second because the candle was so bright. Hostilely, the first thing to come out from his mouth was “I wasn’t hungry!!” He took a moment to compose himself before harshly peering at Volkav. “What is this? What do you plan on doing with us? I’ve known many a priest in my day, and they usually don’t tie up their company.” His words were full to the brim with distaste. He could hear Jane silently crying, and it broke his heart.
<macxcheese>"You said!" Volkov laughed again, then sat down. "Boy, let me tell you a story." He set the candle on the ground, and it made the shadows flicker across his face. "I was a priest in this good country, a very good one. I saved many a soul in my time, many, many. You see, people are plagued by their demons and it was my job to free them." Something sounded behind him and he coughed before continuing. "Excuse me. I go on. One day there was a boy. He looked a bit like you maybe, if you were little," he remarked, raising his hand a short distance from the ground. "This boy had demons and I was called to cleanse his soul. And that I did- but at the cost of his mortal body. He went on to Heaven though, a good thing. Sadly the... law did not agree." He clasped his hands. "I went to the prison for a while, and there I saw terrible things. I kept my faith strong though and found others like me- no- /smarter/ than me. And they taught me that I did not deserve this, and the mistakes of the people who put me, a man of God, would be punished!" He smashed a fist into his palm, his eyes wide. "And when I got out, these demons became- a sign, truely. Because God is angry my son, angry at his children for their sins. While some innocent may fall in this reckoning, it is for the cleansing of mankind." He stood up and walked through the darkness. He knelt down, bringing the candle near a ledge. A hand quickly popped up and a faint groaning began, and grew stronger by the minute. He peered back at Rashad and said, "I must do God's work and send the sinners to Hell." He stood tall and menacing for a moment before relaxing into a smile. "But do not worry. If your souls are clean, you will be sent to Heaven and will live in eternal peace."
Rashad thought very deeply for a moment: this man was an exorcist. He and his warped view of religion indubitably took any deed too far. And if his perception is this warped, only warped thinking was going to reason with him. While Rashad did think of verses- several- off the top of his head that pretty much contradicted everything that man had just said- the fact remained that they were tied up and he wasn’t. Still, he knew so much better… Rashad decided on playing it half and half- he would play stupid for so long before putting the man in his place. If he was going to die, he was going to die right, dammit!! “Father…” the word stung on his tounge, “Do you believe that us three- my family- is accommodating demons? Is that why you took us in?”
<macxcheese>Volkov rubbed his chin. "Yes and no." He came closer to his captives and knelt down. "I thought one must be at least, and if it is so then good, one less sinner in the world. But!" He held up a finger. "It is also time to make a sacrifice to God, especially now as the birth of his son nears! And while I can not part with any food, for I must survive to do these good deeds, sending souls to God should, how do you say it... suffice! In other words, you were to be my sacrificial lambs, demons or no."
“Oh my God.” Rashad felt his breath escape him. It was so much worse than he had thought. There was no reasoning- Volkav needed them, and they were all he had. The three of them were in such a position that he could easily overtake them. There was no brutal force, no action plan, no muscle- Malina was still out cold. Between him and Jane the most they could do was talk. He had to think quick- every moment they were closer to their “sacrifice.” “Father, you don’t want my blood for any Holy doing- I am not worthy. Father I have to confess, I am unclean! Before- before all of this, when civilization was whole….” He let his head fall and his hair covered his face, “I have contracted AIDS. I have sinned, Father. But if you let us go- with what little time on Earth I may have, I will aid you. Let me come clean.”
<macxcheese>Volkov sat and held the candle up to Rashad. "Please do not plead boy, it is unsightly. I will let you confess your sins though if you like, so that you may have a chance for Heaven."
Rashad exhaled loudly and pulled forward, pulling on Jane and Malina’s hands behind him. “No, you don’t understand-“ He was genuinely upset now, and his voice was almost scared, “I really have sinned, and I REALLY need time to make them up.” He pulled on them a little more and tried to rise to his feet, but it didn’t work with Malina still out. “I am nothing without redemption; redemption I still NEED to gain.” His eyes shot up at Volkav, sharp and dark, “What kind of priest are you if you don’t condone forgiveness?? Not a priest at all, I wager!!” He started to speak louder and angrier, “Here’s a sermon, hypocrite! “For all the is in the world, the lust of the flesh”- he stammered there but kept going, “-and the lust…of the eyes, and the pride of the life, is not of the Father, but is of the world!’” he sniffed, “Sounds like you’re pretty satisfied with your own work,” He looked up, “You should try reading some of His sometime…”
<macxcheese>Volkov leaned back in surprise at Rashad, and kept smiling. The smile slowly disappeared though as the boy kept speaking, and soon he was angry. He stood and grabbed the front of Rashad's shirt, pulling not only him but the other two to their feet. "You do not know who you speak to child! You do not deserve redemption, you are a demon yourself!" He sharply let go and let the trio tumble to the ground, then leaned over. "You will die and you will burn in Hell." He started to turn, but a small voice stopped him.
<macxcheese>Jane had listened in silence to the conversation. They were going to die. She should feel relieved, yet... she felt angry. And sad. Mostly angry though, and she didn't know why. All she knew was she wanted to live. She caught on to Rashad's stammering and realized he was buying them time. She thought it was all over though when she felt herself be lifted it up, and it was only luck that kept herself from getting hurt when they were thrown back down. She heard silence and knew they needed to come up with something before it was too late. That was easier said than done with Volkov in the room... Her head popped up and she pulled as much courage as she could into her voice to keep it from shaking. "Father," she called. "I'm hungry. Please, may I have one last meal?" She turned her head as far as she could to see him, and added on, "Like Jesus, right?"
<macxcheese>Volkov stooped down to her and nodded. "Yes, I think I can arrange that." He stood up and put a hand out. "Do not move," he commanded, as if they could, and briskly left the room.
“Finally someone here is making sense!” Malina coughed. She had taken most of the weight from the fall, and her face was covered in soil and the like. She was still really fuzzy, but she didn’t have to hear that conversation to know Rashad didn’t do any good. Still, she had to admit, “Rashad does plans.” She realized how sore she was from the taser, and how bad she wanted to get back at him. Her brother sat silent, steaming, but still managed to sound worried, “Are you alright Malina?” She, on the other hand, tried to sound tough, but there was still a draw in her voice “I’ll be okay. I’m too sore to move right now though. The fall hurt.” Talking made her tired. Rashad nodded and tried to glance back at Jane, “Excellent work Jane. Plan wise- All we can do is distract him. Live as long as we can is our final goal, okay? Do what you have to and say what you have to, I suppose. Still,” He let his shoulders fall, “He’s wrong, and I don’t want him to win.”
<macxcheese>Jane sighed. That was a terrible plan, even if it was the only one they had. "Okay," she whispered back, just as Volkov re-entered the room. He knelt down and held the can out to Jane, for a moment not realizing she couldn't take it. At the discovery he laughed, scooping out a spoonful and holding it out to her. She leaned forward and tried to draw out eating as much as she could, while at the same time trying to come up with something to talk about. Anything, anything... "Father," Jane said between bites, "What happened to your hand?"
<macxcheese>Volkov stopped feeding her and held his hand up, twitching the three fingers. "Ah well, some months I could not find any lost ones to give to the Lord, so I had to use my own flesh. I always try to make up for it though, maybe two rituals in one month," he explained with a wink. Jane suppressed a shudder.
Malina muttered, “We have hands.” from the back. Rashad glared straight through Volkav. Very quietly he muttered, under his breath:
“God is close to those that are hurting. God is close to the broken hearted.”

macxcheeseVolkov caught Rashad’s muttering and set down the can. “I see. Well, let’s make sure you are very close to God then. It is time for the sacrifice.” He grabbed the shoulders of Jane and Malina’s clothing and pulled them to their feet. Jane’s heart felt like it was going to explode and she felt dizzy with adrenaline. All she could think of was how she was going to die, how she was wasting her second chance, how they needed a distraction. And then Malina’s words hit her. /We have hands/. “Father wait!” she cried out. Volkov gave her an annoyed look, so she continued quickly, the words spilling out of her mouth as soon as she thought of them. “I want to make a sacrifice like you did!” she gasped, nodding towards his hands. “Then God may let me repent for my sins so I can go to Heaven!” She hoped that sounded convincing enough and waited nervously for his reply. Volkov stared long and hard at her, then finally smiled his toothy smile. He was quite liking this girl! “Why not?” he replied. He had nothing left to lose! So he took small knife and cut her bindings free from the other two. CandyLeptic "Jane." Rashed muttered, all of his further anger gone and he sounded worried and fatherly. "Jane..." He nodded his head, but looked coldly onto Volkav. Malina sniffed from the back- she had a bloody nose from the fall and it was running down her face. She was worried too- her entire body was in knots, but she couldn't think of any ideas. Rashad was the idea person, and when he was worried, it sucked all hope out of her. "I want to repent!" Rashad yelled at him, and pulled toward him! Malina actually pulled him back and harshly whispered, "You NEED your hands." Otherwise he wouldn't make much of a surgeon, would he? She wanted to offer her's up to but...she needed to be able to shoot. Plus, the blood down her face was filling her mouth when she talked, and she hated to admit it, but she was scared. macxcheeseJane shot the siblings a look, hoping they’d understand that she had a plan. Volkov led her to smooth stone slab jutting from the side of the wall with a machete laying on it. He cut the rope around her hands, tied it tight around her left forearm, and handed her the blade. “You must do it yourself, or it will not help you,” he explained, stepping back. Jane smiled kindly and nodded at him, then flexed her fingers. She drew the blade up, took a deep breath, and swung. Not at herself though, at Volkov! She saw flecks of blood dance across the air and thought herself victorious, realizing too late that she’d only succeeded in nicking his cheek. She felt her feet get kicked out from under her and saw stars when her head hit the floor. She saw the machete in Volkov’s hand, and knew her arm was pinned by the other. She prepared herself for what would happen next, but nothing could really prepare you for it. Her screams filled the cavern and the smell of blood filled the air. CandyLeptic From the siblings, silence. They had watched so carefully, and honestly thought that Jane had usurped him- When she was caught though, Rashad looked away, and the scream hit hit hard. He could fear tears fill his eyes, and he blinked hard. It so unfair. Jane- no one- deserved this but Jane was one of them, and he hated himself for not volunteering his own hand. Maybe, just maybe... Malina did not break eye contact. It was hard to watch and she wanted to throw up, but only pure, ignited RAGE stopped her. She knew at that moment she would show no mercy to Volkav- whatever he called himself, she would have none of it. She would never admit it in a million years, but she silently cried for Jane too. The salty tears mixed with the blood on her face, and she swallowed hard, glaring forward, hellbent on seeing he gets repaid for that action in full. macxcheeseVolkov picked himself up, taking Jane’s hand with him. He looked calmly at her and stated, “You lied. God will never forgive you.” He made his way to the pit, raising his arms up. His voice bellowed over the moans of the dead. “This sacrifice is for you my Lord! Please protect me in these volatile times!” Jane’s vision went in and out. All she could feel was pain, and she tried desperately to stay awake. She couldn’t die. She /wouldn’t/ die. CandyLeptic Malina glared at him, but she couldn't see through her tears, and couldn't tell where exactly he was, or where Jane was, or if Jane was okay. She heard something behind her and it didn't register, until about the fourth time; "तेयारी (Get ready)." She tried to look back to Rashad, but couldn't quite, "What?" He repeated himself. "तेयारी (Get ready)." Malina hadn't heard Hindi in so long it took a moment to even register. "सब ठीक (Okay)," she mumbled back. Rashad let the tears stream down his face rather than try to blink them away, and he could see clearer- Volkav turned, now in front of Malina, now with knife in hand. He made eye contact with Rashad, noted the tears on his cheeks for a moment before Rashad breathed; "अभी (Now)." Malina tried to understand what was happening but she was up and off her feet- Rashad fell and positioned his weight so Malina was in the air. A tear rolled down her cheek and she could see her reflection in Volkav's knife, and it was far too calm, so she flashed her teeth and kicked him- hard, over his heart. A second later, she was on the ground next to Rashad, who know got a view of her bloodied and teared face. macxcheeseJane’s eyes flew open at the sound of screams, quickly fading into a steady moaning. Her shallow breathing became ragged as her dizzied mind assumed the worst, and tears started rolling down her already tear-stained face. She made herself look over, expecting to see Volkov coming for her. What she saw made her cry harder. They would live. Everything went black. CandyLeptic Malina and Rashad caught their breath. "You got him." Rashad said and laid his head on the ground for a moment. Silence passed before Malina gave him an unimpressed "Now what?" Rashad thought for a moment. The two managed to get themselves in a seated position; the rope was still tied but much looser than previously from their fall. Rashad, with a struggle, managed to get his hands under him and swing them to his front, but, naturally, dislocated his own shoulder in the process! CandyLeptic From there, he untied himself with his teeth, and then (Painfully!) got Malina untied too. Before anything, she wiped her face clean of tears (But smeared the blood like warpaint in the process.) Rashad ran to attend to Jane, but Malina approached the cliff Volkav had fallen into. Thirty feet below, a pit of zombies crowded around what she assumed to be his body. Further away, various tunnels allowed the creatures to move to and fro the pit, but they were probably primed for their "feeding time." She wanted to throw up, but instead she just stared at them for a long moment, until Rashad's calling finally got her attention. "It's over," he said to her again, "But Jane still needs us." Malina nodded and ran over, and Rashad started to carry her. Malina managed to pop his shoulder back in, and the two split ways- Rashad had a fairly good sense of direction- and quickly navigated through the tunnels to find what he expected had put them out in the first place- hospital grade chloroform. Excellent. Setting Jane down on a cot gently, he ripped fabric from his shirt and doused it. He placed it over her mouth to be sure she was out cold- he wouldn't risk that she was still possibly in pain. He carefully inspected her injury- the hand was cut clean off. Volkav knew what he was doing but, it wasn't an /amputation/. He had no intention of securing it, which meant it would never properly heal. 'Primum non nocere,' he thought. The Hippocratic oath*** sure made him feel hypocritical, he wagered! He didn't want to face it but- He'd have to cut more. *** The Hippocratic Oath is taken by all healthcare students that promise to "firstly, do no harm." For this reason many doctors refuse amputation as there is no sure way the outcome will be better and not cause more damage. Rashad is going against his values in favor of his gut instinct!*** Malina came to the chickens again, and, she really didn't WANT to keep them but she knew that getting the HELL out of there was #1 on their agenda. Fortunately for her, they had cages, and she took as many as she could. She found their room, returned her taser to its spot, tied Rashad's scarf around her shoulders, and got their bags. She wasn't sure how much was in them, but she didn't have time to inspect the entire place! Rashad took Jane and turned down the hall, meeting Malina. She handed him most of what she could hold, save the chickens- Rashad was unsure about them, but they were a constant source of eggs he supposed. He took the bags and she took the cages, but as they were about to break through, she turned to go back. "Something else," she noted! Rashad trusted her to go out on her own, and followed the light until- sun!! Warm sun! Warmth, actually! It wasn't spring yet, but, it was warmer comparatively, seeing as the sun was out and it was at least 40 degrees. The snow had thinned, making driving possible again. He was willing to call THAT a Christmas miracle!! He made his way to Volkav's jeep (He left the keys in!!!!) and found it was unlocked! He let their backpacks fall onto the ground, and set Jane up. Malina searched high and low but all her Silly Bandz were gone!!! Some of them she had from before the zombies even SPREAD! She ripped through books and files and candles and even let the candles fall and light them on fire, she didn't care! She torn down a book shelf but- stopped dead. There were copies of the same, thin book, with the same handwritten text Jane had real aloud to her. That meant....there were several journals...for several people...that Volkav had personally made. Which means he had been in their hotel. Which means, he had watched them and in a sick way, took care of them. And all Malina could do was turn around and throw up, take the cages, and find her way outside. Jane was stretched out in the back seat of the jeep, arm extended outward so that it laid over the middle counsel, and Rashad sat in the passenger seat. After this all, Jane would NOT feel like moving for quite a while, so he figured positioning her here was smarter. He left all the doors to the car open- it was uncomfortable, but cold air meant constricted veins, which meant less blood would be flowing and therefore lost. He tied the remains of his shirt just under Jane;s shoulder as hard as he could. He waited for a moment for the arm to start to feel limp, and then got his things ready. It sickened him, and he refused to use Volkav's sword, but the only other sharp thing they had on them large enough was, ironically, Jane's own hatchet. He lightly traced her bone positions with his finger, carefully, as cutting through bone could mean fragments entering her bloodstream and proving fatal later. He gulped, cleaned it one last time, and let the hatchet fall. "Eggs." Malina said, as she got in the driver's seat and handed them to a now bloody Rashad. He took them and cracked them outside the car, and peeled out the protective webbing that concealed the yolk. Malina didn't watch- she didn't want to for once. Rashad used all the eggs and kept adding to his netting mixture, until he lifted up what was left of his shirt from Jane's arm (or what was left of it). He applied it to the wound, knowing fully well it was one of the few nearly sterile things to their disposal, and that it would act as a catalyst for skin to heal back over her nub. They couldn't risk it getting infected and taking more, he wasn't sure what would be available to them later. Malina sat in the passenger seat still, and Rashad closed the car door behind him. He had one thing he wanted to do there too- He unwrapped his last glass bottle, and using the (now) red and bloody shirt Volkav changed him into, he swirled the alcohol one more time, stuck in the fabric, lit a match, and let it go. Malina watched in the rear view mirror as it all burned behind them, and muttered a quick "thank you" to the sky. =-> | ===>
