Ace had his plans laid out in his head. He'd drawn up a rough schedule last night. He helped Lorna and Rick get started on their trip, reassuring Lorna once again that everything would be fine, and he was certain they'd be home soon. Once they'd finally taken off, Rick being as inappropriate as ever, never mind the fact that he was flirting with a woman who was not interested and also armed, Ace headed back inside. He quickly set up the rest of the equipment he'd be needing, then headed upstairs.
He still felt too new to implement any real changes. He would stick to the ration calendar Lorna had left. He would make sure patrols were maintained to her schedule as well, and that all the daily chores got done. He'd already slipped into the habit of doing those himself, anyway. But there was one thing that had itched at him ever since he arrived. While everyone here had some fighting prowess, as was proved if by no other fact than their survival, they were all woefully undisciplined. The boy, Conrad, had a little military training, but he wore the title ASAP like a blaring neon sign. The purple girl, Skylar, couldn't seem to care about anything but her own interests and whatever passing distraction caught her fancy. And while he had heard an awful lot about their third young adult resident, he had yet to properly meet her, having nothing more to go on than a few glimpses of strawberry blonde hair and wide, frightful eyes.
They would never last a prolonged siege with MRZA+'s, and would go down even quicker to an intelligent enemy.
This had to be fixed.
He went to the first door upstairs, knowing it belonged to Conrad. He knocked firmly. He could already hear movement inside. It was almost 8:00 hours, and the boy was usually up at about this time. Still, he needed his attention.
"Meeting in the living room in fifteen," he said. He had tried to keep in mind that most people took longer to wake up and get ready for the day than he did. No time to dilly-dally, though.
He moved along to the next door, Skylar's. He knocked louder on hers, still putting effort in to make it not aggressive. He repeated the same message, then again more firmly when he was met with reluctant groans.
He moved to Jane's door and knocked, between the force he had used for Skylar and Conrad's doors. He was sure she was asleep, but knew she was easily startled. Once he had enough sounds to be sure she was awake, he repeated his message one more time, then moved from there back to his own room.
He woke Alicia up gently, slowly shaking her shoulder. She yawned and sat up, rubbing her eyes. He explained to her they were going to have a special day today, then quickly brushed her hair, tied it up, and got her dressed. He had her ready and downstairs five minutes before he had told the others to meet.
