Skylar: Her hands tightened on the banister as she glared down at Rick and Lorna, but mostly Rick. She thought about sniping something, demanding Lorna do something, but changed her mind.
She wondered if she would hit him if she spit from here. Probably not, and wouldn't want to make Lorna angry by spitting on her floors.
Instead she flicked her head back and pranced down the stairs. She passed Rick, purposely brushing by him, although much lighter than he had her.
"I prefer whole milk," she said as she went by, heading into the kitchen.

Rick held his hands up defensively, rolling his eyes and chuckling as the younger woman brushed past him and quipped in reply to his milk comment.
"Touchy." He muttered under his breath, shaking his head before directing his attention back to Lorna with a triumphant grin. "I was scavengin', thank ya ver' much! First place ya gotta start wittiz where ya've chosen ta set up base, 'viously." He gestured around them, turning in a lazy, swaying circle as he did.
He started striding back up the stairs, his long legs taking them two at a time without any effort. He stretched to do three at a time, making it to the top of the stairs in no time. He crouched at the top of the railing, hands griping it as he teetered on his heels and stared down at Lorna like a child on the brink of being banished to his room for disobeying.
"Ya ever fully scoped out dis place?" He leered, "I already found TONS a goodies. If it wasn't fer yer latest stray fer goin'n distractin' me, I was 'bout ta bring 'em down ta show y'all. But!" He threw up his hands in a helpless gesture again, mocking sheepishness. "Er'body's out ta paint me da villain 'fore I even go n do nothin'. Tsk tsk tsk."

Lorna rolled her eyes, so past the point of wanting to deal with him and his... shenanigans right then.
"Whatever, just find something useful," she said before sighing and turning to go and find Skylar. Sometimes she thought she needed to pick her party members better, and other times she remembered that Rick and Conrad hadn't left her a choice.

Skylar: She ran a hand lightly over the counter, letting the coolness of the top calm her. Great. Another stupid guy. And in her recent past, aggressive words were shortly followed by aggressive behavior. But Lorna seemed to, well, she wasn't sure if she liked him or not, but but she seemed to want him there for some unfathomable reason. So, at least for now, she'd see where it went. She'd just have to be certain she wasn't in a closed off area alone with him.
She sighed and used her usual trick of focusing on her senses to stop herself from thinking. She slid her fingers, her body heat having warmed up the spot on the counter she was touching. The air was actually a nice temperature, just slightly warmer than her skin. There was no AC in here (she actually hadn't noticed if it turned on or not when the generator started, she had been too busy with the shower) but apparently the insulation did well enough on its own. She could only imagine how this place must have been smack in the worst part of summer, though. But they were in North Dakota, maybe not.
Next her hearing. Her music still strained through the air from her headphones, her iPod long since having moved on from the song she picked. Now Usher thumped out in heavy beats. She could feel slight vibrations in her neck where the foam of the headphones rested. Good, that was good right now.
Then for smell. Nothing of note. Hints of cooking. That had been a while. Cleaner, surprisingly, although it was faint and old. And just the smell of house, something so long forgotten she had forgotten it was real. Despite the immense difference in design, it reminded her of her father's mansion in L.A. Her mother had always lived in apartments.
She muscled past the sense of nostalgia and moved on to sight. A table with books on it, chairs surrounding it, cushioned but not very comfortable, it all stained a lovely brown. The counter tops, she needed to move her hand again for coolness, smooth and speckled. A stove, relatively clean, someone here obviously cared about the state of the kitchen and food. Probably Lorna, although she supposed it could be Conrad. A small faux chandelier, as she called them, above the dining room table with incredibly generic fancy lights. Suddenly it struck her hard in the chest how normal it all looked. She had an intense feeling of vertigo and clutched the counter for support. She wasn't in a house, she was in a home, she could feel it. It seemed so wrong, and was everything she had longed for for every second for nearly a year.
After a bit of deep breathing the moment passed. Still, she shook herself and felt a smile returning despite Rick. She wondered, as long as he turned out to be safe, how long Lorna would let her stay here after all.

Pouting at the dismissal, Rick cheered himself by watching Lorna's retreating back. (Or rather, a specific part of it.) Once she was out of sight, he pulled himself up with a slight bounce, surprisingly agile despite his bulk. However, the action had his ankle reminding him of the scar wrapped around it, and with a slight cringe he took greater ease heading towards the old cardboard box he had been using to gather things he deemed valuable.
Figuring he had made more enemies than friends at the moment, he took care going down the stairs to remain as quiet as possible. He could hear a faint humming - music? Who could, and how could they, be playing music? - but it was too faint to place, but it was definitely coming from the kitchen, where both women had headed. He grimaced. He had really wanted to get back in there, and do some more arranging and inspecting. It was... surprisingly comforting, even though the lay out was not up to his specifications.
Blowing out a sigh of air without a sound, he slid down the wall directly outside the kitchen. Hiding like a child, he sat on the floor and tried to rummage through his findings without drawing any attention. Maybe they'd say something interesting, who knows. He internally shrugged and debated what he should even bother showing to the rest of them, if they didn't even crack a smile at his offerings of potentially helpful items.

Lorna crept into the kitchen, curious as to how Skylar was adjusting now that she'd gotten past the hardest part- Rick. It was while she gripped the counter that Lorna suddenly remembered that she had never seen her so thin in school. Granted, everyone was thinner nowadays, but... She looked paler than she could remember, even though she'd been in the sun a lot, obviously, and now that the layer of grime was washed off, her face looked more sunken in. In class she'd always had energy to spare, was always fiddling and was never paying attention. ADHD had been a thought, but what if she just had a high metabolism...?
With a start, she shook herself from her reverie. A high metabolism in an apocalypse. Must be fun.
"Skylar," she said, hoping she hadn't scared her. "I know you ate recently, but are you still hungry? I know someone who could give you a decent meal. He must be around here somewhere..." She positioned her head so it faced the hallway as she said this. All of a sudden, a loud thump was heard from under the bar.
"Ow..." Conrad said, standing up from his spot (being careful to duck his head this time) and rubbing his head. His face colored as he looked away. "I.. I heard something about food..."

Skylar: She jumped when Lorna spoke. She cleared her throat as she turned. Was she hungry? She was always hungry. She lifted a hand and felt her ribs. She could clearly count all of them. For the first time she realized that she may have been actually starving.
"Food would be nice," she said in a weak voice. When Conrad was discoverd, however, she quickly lost what she had been thinking about and laughed merrily. "Do you squirrel yourself away often?" She asked, lightly teasing.

Hearing what he took as his cue, Rick debated ignoring it for the time being and just continue to keep rummaging through the box of potential supplies he had found. However, he quickly realized he had pretty much gone through all of it. And admittedly, he was slightly possibly maybe a little desperate for people to stop treating him like he was only around because he was immune. The only thing he could presently think of to prove he could be more than a rather large nuisance was to make food - people always loved his food.
Standing up, he stood in the kitchen doorway with the cardboard box in his arms. Wordlessly, he handed it off to Lorna and turned to inspect the supplies instead.
There was, impressively, enough to whip up a couple things. But what? What's the first thing most people crave in an apocalypse? He gently shoved some things out of the way while browsing through one of the higher up cupboards, easily reaching it thanks to his height. He thought of the little cat's comment from earlier about his height and frowned. 'M'plenty tall.' He mused, mentally comparing himself against the other people in the crew. As he reminisced about the others, he remembered a conversation he'd had with Conrad, during the time Frown Brow was unconscious and it was just the two of them figuring things out for the time being.
"I know it's a lil' late fer breakfest," he peeked in the fridge, confirming he could pull it off, "But how would everyone feel 'bout chocolate chip pancakes?"

Lorna, frowning, crossed the room and put the box down on the table before looking in it and frowning somehow more deeply. Was this what he considered scavenging? She knew all this stuff was here, she just wasn't USING it. Ah, well.
Conrad jumped on top of the counter in one smooth motion and ran across it before jumping down and landing on his feet in the kitchen. "OOOOOOOHHHHh my god could you DO THAT?"
"Yeah, there's some of that... pancake stuff in the cupboard that you only have to add water to. Krusteaz or whatever." Lorna said, waving her hand. "Also, my parents stockpiled baked goods like they knew the world was going to shit so I stuck it all in the fridge. There are chocolate chips in there." Technically Rick could probably make pancakes from scratch too (not that she could), but Lorna knew his nose would wrinkle at having to use powdered milk and eggs. Snooty culinary school drop-out. Those would probably be around a while.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE WE WAITING FOR?" Conrad asked, way too loudly. "I-I mean," he said, looking over at Skylar. "That would be really awesome."

Skylar: Almost all her previous thoughts about Rick flew out of her head as he said the magic words.
"Chocolate chip pancakes?" She asked in an awed voice. Her eyes were wide, shining with the sunlight that filtered on trough the window, and she leaned eagerly over the counter. "You can do that?"
At Conrad's explosion she agreed eagerly, nodding her haps rapidly. "Let's do it!!!!"

Feeling slightly better about himself thanks to their euphoric reactions, Rick tipped his hat with an egotistically grin in Lorna's direction, who somehow found a way to frown harder without moving any part of her face. Turning his back to her with a laugh, Rick pulled the pancake mix out of the cupboard and the chocolate chips out of the fridge.
Somehow, he already seemed to have the place memorized, as he pulled a large mixing bowl out of one of the lower cupboards and began mixing the batter without preamble.
"I apologize dat y'all jus' hafta believe my hands're clean." He teased, as Conrad and Skylar had come up on either side of him and were peeking at what he was doing. "But we dun 'xactly have a ton a water ta spare."
Pulling out a large pan, he gave it a skillful twirl with his hand before placing it on the burner.
"Do ya like 'em large 'n in charge, er small n' bite size-like, kitty cat?" He asked Skylar, ignoring Conrad for the time being.

Conrad would not be ignored. "HUGE," he said, too loudly again. "Not that I'm a cat. I'm just hungry, okay???"
Lorna rolled her eyes and sat down at the dining room table, watching from afar.

Skylar: She nodded her head fiercely.
"Big big big! Definitely." She enjoyed silver dollar pancakes too, they were adorable, but right now her stomach was starting to yawn open after being awakened from the small feast earlier. She wanted a pancake so big she could sleep on it.
Unable to wait any longer, she darted a hand into the bowl while Rick was busy flipping a perfectly browned pancake and plucked a chocolate chip away, stuffing it into her mouth. She gave a sharp intake of breath shortly as the sweetness burst across her tongue. She flipped her hands back and forth, showing them off.
"I just took a shower. They're clean!"

Big being the order of the day, Rick set to work dishing out the hugest pancakes he could manage on the amount of space he had to work with without turning out half-cooked monster with chocolate chips for eyes.
"Yer nadda cat." Rick teased Conrad further as he watched the batter begin turning into delicious plate-sized delicacies. "More like a kitten, yer so tiny." He stuck his tongue out playfully while flipping the pancake, "Like Mr. Whiskers!"
It was during this distraction Skylar took her chance to snatch one of the precious chocolate chips out of Rick's clutches, but he heard the intake of breath and turned his head. He had been expecting widened eyes and a terrified face, maybe eyes peeled on a nearby window as though she had seen a walker outside. It took him a moment or two to figure out what the little minx had done to his supplies - not that he couldn't spare ONE chocolate chip, but still - and her delight with her own clean hands distracted him further before he could shoot her a mischievous smirk.
"Clean? Is dat what ya call chocolate chip pilfering digits?" He winked, flipping one pancake out of the pan and into the start of a stack as he prepared another one immediately.

Conrad frowned. He was 5'8", alright? Hell, the FUHRER was shorter than him. He ignored it for the time being, though and reached for the pancake only to stop himself. "Eh, you're probably hungrier than me. Go for it," he said to Skylar.
